Great game so far tonight. The Sharks have the edge at the and of the first period, in the play and logically on the scoresheet. They are faaaast.
2-2 now.

I did not stay for the 3rd (stupid PST), but it was deserved considering the way the Sharks were dominating the the play in the first and second period. This said, the Wings were not giving up much (that PP at then end of the first was a beauty of puck control and movement even though it did not end up as a goal).
Great game!

WOW! What a game.
That was back & forth the whole time. I think it shows that the Sharks can be the dominant team when they get it together, even after getting whooped pretty bad by the Wings previously.
I'm still really bummed about their first loss at home.

Sharks and Bruins are a likely match for the Stanley Cup. I'm glad the Sharks did really well against the Bruins in Boston.

On the Sharks' side, it will depend on McLellan's ability to make his team believe that they won't choke again in the playoffs. He's a good coach , and so far he's been doing a good job, but the Sharks have a history of playoff meltdown. They do remind me of the Wings of the early 90's though : several years of regular season greatness and subsequent playoff futility before finally getting their act together. Is this the year?
And one can't count out the Wings in spite of their fatigue and goaltending situation : Zetterberg and Datsyuk have the skills and hard working attitude to win games on their own, if not series.
The West is much better this year, but it also means that the road to the Stanley Cup Final will be tougher there.

Gah! You shut yer pie hole! They will NOT choke... not like every other year.
Gods of Hockey do not let the Sharks choke!

Did I ever mention how much I freakin' hate those cheating Dallas bastards? Bad enough they have to cheat every freakin' time they're in Dallas, but now they have to cheat while in San Jose.
Stars can all go to ing hell, every one of you cheating holes. It was like watching a football game. Dallas taking dives and looking for penalties... and actually getting them. Unbelievable. Stars are bunch of asshats who can't man up against a good team, so they have to cheat.

Wings are 2 games ahead of Sharks. When they're on par for GP then I'll worry.
I just keep jinxing myself. Right after I said I doubt they'd lose 3 in a row, they go and lose 3 in a row.

It would be a compelling first round series figuring superstar animosity, talented offense, up tempo play and average to suspect goaltending. Lots of potential indeed.

Pretty much down to Detroit and San Jose for both Conference and President's Cup. They don't call it Hockeytown for nothing. You can do it, Sharks! GO GO GO!!!

Actually, they do call it Hockeytown for nothing. It was a marketing slogan created by an ad agency in the mid 90s. The phrase has no history beyond that.

Detroit certainly has a history for a really good hockey team.

For the last decade or so. They were pretty much bottom feeders before that. Well, they were good back in the day, when there were 6 teams, but in this modern era, the age of Detroit being a dominate force goes back to the mid to late 90s. Before that, stinktown would have been a better name.
Back in the day I used to hate Chicago and feel bad for the Wings. Then I hated Detroit and felt bad for Chicago. Now I hate them both, so hooray!
I keep thinking that it should be cyclical and any year now Detroit is going to start sucking again, but it just never happens. They keep drafting superstars in the 5th round thanks to their unholy pact with Satan.

Still a few games left. I don't know why, but the Sharks have had problems with the Predators all year. It's weird.

"this month"
Remember he was 4.04 GAA (!) and 0.858 in November (only 5games though, i guess he was injured, i don't remember. December wasn't much better). He's turned it around since granted. Still that's the definition of suspect in my books. You don't know what to expect. And yeah, it's the same with Theodore (or Osgood for that matter : trust me i got a few candles lit up right now for Ozzy..)

Think they have started their choking epilogue a little earlier this year? ;-) I kid, I kid.
This said the Preds have a good team, so I am not surprised. The Jackets is the one team I fear out of the West (outside the Sharks that is).

Yea but you got Conklin backing him up, he was clutch for us last year and i have no doubt he could come through, i like the wings out of the west, i think the sharks are losing in the second round (IMO)
EDIT: watch out for the flames though

Wings can't get #50 (losing 2-0 to the Islanders!??) and the Sharks are back in command. But the interesting point is that as of today the whole central division would be in the playoffs... All 5 of them. crazy.

And on/in our public transit. The busses and light rail have Sharks Territory banners, and the destination signs toggle "GO SHARKS"

Your time line is a little off. The Wings are the only team in professional sports to reach their respective playoffs every year since 1991. They have been in the playoffs 57 times in the last 80 years. Mike Babcock is the only NHL coach to win 50 games three seasons in a row, and will soon make it four seasons, a record which will likely stand for many, many, years to come. They are also one of three teams to reach over 100 points in three consecutive seasons.
I'm sure there are one or two other records they've reached that I've forgotten.
