according to the BBC. It will be interesting if Apple approves this app (given that it is directly up against iTunes), but presumably the developers must have had some discussions with Apple before getting to this stage.

The article mentions that tracks will be downloaded to the iPhone, although I suspect this really means 'streaming'.

This is good news if true as Spotify is outstanding. I can see the battery taking a serious hit during use though.

The premium service, which currently costs £9.99 a month,
Well, that's a real bargain right there

I have more important things to buy with $200 per year.

Great! Unless they only allow it to premium users. Then useless to me.

So does spotify do for $20.00 a month what last.fm and pandora do for $3.00?
Serious question, I've never used it.

You can listen offline with Spotify. They do actually mean download to your phone.

Yep, although last time I checked pandora doesn't support the UK and Spotify doesn't support the US

Yes, pandora is US only - although there are ways around that.

Just as an FYI, when they ask for a US zip code, they don't really check...

I don't know about Pandora, but Spotify is not really like last.fm. Spotify gives you an iTunes-like interface with just about everything from the past 30 years (probably more) in your 'Library'. You can search for albums, make playlists etc. It's also free in it basic mode, with a 20 second audio advert every 20 minutes of playing.

There are premium versions without adverts and maybe more tweaks but I don't know anyone who has signed up for that. The BBC reported that it has two million users in the UK which is maybe 5% of the 15-64 age group which is pretty good in a few months.

Sounds interesting. I am going to give it a try, thanks.

I've got a pandora one account, which gives me 192 kbps streaming with no ads for $36 a year. It will be interesting to compare music libraries.

Yeah, really. Why do people pay for that stuff? I don't get it. It's just music. I mean, I can understand Sirius. You can't get Mark Levin and the 80's music on the fm dial. Hell, I can't get an FM radio station on the fm dial here where I live.
