Let me apologize in advance if this question has been asked before, but I didn't find what I was looking for in the archives.

A friend has a 15" Powerbook from a few revs back, and she would like to swap the hard drive out for one with a larger capacity. I've found a number of promising dealers so far, but thought I'd ask if anyone has had any positive or negative experiences with any particular drives or dealers.

More importantly, my friend wants the entire contents of her existing hard drive transferred seamlessly to the new one, so that after I perform the upgrade, she can open her PowerBook and have everything as it was. Does anyone know the best software for accomplishing this? Something like Norton Ghost comes to mind, though it doesn't appear to be available for OS X.

Many thanks,

Daniel

I've heard good things about CompUSA... IIRC they charge $30 to swap hard drives in PowerBooks. I think you're better off buying the drive on your own and then paying someone else to swap it.

Carbon Copy Cloner is a popular disk duplication tool. You'll need a USB or Firewire external case to put one of the disks in to copy all of the data.

Get an external Firewire 2.5" enclosure to help with the transfer. Then you can leave the original drive in it, and it can function as a backup drive.
