While poking through my running processes in Windows XP (trying to kill Adobe Reader, ugh), I noticed a little gem: AppleOSSMgr.exe. "Odd", I thought. "Never seen that one before..." I performed a quick search of my hard drive and found it at C:\Windows\System32\AppleOSSMgr.exe. Right-click, Properties, and here's the description:
"Provides support for switching between Mac OS X and Windows"
Wait a second... huh? The version is 2.0.0.1, which means it came with the Leopard Boot Camp drivers I recently installed. It's unrelated to system time, keyboard support, or the control panel applet where you select your default OS. A Google search finds only 177 pages with the file name, and none with a useful description.
Way back when 10.5 was first detailed, Apple promised a way to quickly switch between OS X and Windows, presumably built around Safe Sleep and Hibernation. Might this be related to the infamous missing feature?
