Ok...slow might not be the best word.....sluggish is the word I'll use,
I have a 12" 1.5 Pbook with 512mb of ram. I had this baby a whole month and then upgraded tiger last night. For some strange reason, I get beach balls and delays.
I did a simple archive and install and kept my users, but I can't believe the performance different.
What's the deal here? What do I need to do? Do I really need to add more than 512mb of ram? I'm using mail, safari, itunes, etc. I'm not doing anything serious here, but there is a noticable difference.
I rebooted a few times and spotlight has stopped archiving.....
So what gives?

I did the same install. Have you rebooted? Try the following ideas
1. reboot- boot from the install DVD and repair the permissions
2. If you moved the utility folder out from the application 10.4 puts a new utility folder in application folder these are are the new (updated utilities) but you still have old utilities - I deleted the old ones.
3. if its still beachballing open up the terminal and type "top" (without the quotes) is there something usurping your cpu cycles? If there is quit the offending app.
4. if its still slow post back

Try doing an archive/reinstall rather than an upgrade install...

I have an older 1ghz 12" pb and it is noticably faster in Tiger than in Panther. Mine has 512 in it too which seems to be enough for running the normal things I do (safari, word, itunes mostly). Are you seeing the beachball only in finder or in all apps? if you create a whole new user with all new settings is it still sluggish?

I also did an archive install on my fairly new 15inch PowerBook 1.5Ghz and it's much much faster. Perhaps you should try backing up and doing a clean install if you're able to.

Are you sure Spotlight is still not indexing your hard drive? Give it some more time for that task to be completed.
