I've started having a lot of Kernel panics since installing Adobe CS2. i read of a problem with illegal file names but am not sure that is my problem now. I did seem to have that problem with first install, but ran fsck:

Anyway, the Kernel panic logs seem to have the same errors. Any help appreciated:

This is almost certainly a kernel bug. The panic is indicating that a data structure inside the kernel is corrupted or that the data structure was never fully initialised.

sb->sb_so is documented as the "socket back ptr for kexts" suggesting that this particular field in the data structure is for use by kernel extensions. Do you have any unusual kernel extensions installed (third party network cards, or even something like Virtual PC may install one, but I don't believe Adobe CS2 should).

You should report this bug to Apple using the crash reporter that appears after a panic.

Hi, I do have Virtual PC, but no cards installed. Problems didn't surface till after CS2 install which went horribly wrong 3 times! Their authentication service messed up and I had to install in a new user to get it to work. I did install a trial of Zend Studio, and I have TechTool Pro, and ClamXav. Those are the most low level things I have.

However, no crash reporter appears after the panic.

My first suspicion would be RAM. I had a bad 512mb stick that only reared its ugly head under certain circumstances, namely when all memory was being actively used.

I tried all the tricks, thinking it was an OS problem. I reset the memory chips, video cards and removed the few dead spiders inside the PM case. Swapping the chips however, made the problem occur more frequently, as the OS was using the bad chip more often.

While I could not take the 512mb stick out and use OS X with the remaining 512mb ( adequately for my use ), I bought a new chip.

Nothing fixed it, until I swapped out the chips, one by one, with a new 1GB stick. I finally was able to run for days without any KPs.

Curiously, I took that same 512mb stick and put it in my Linux rig and within a day, instability in that computer showed up. This was a server that had uptimes of 1/2 year and NEVER crashed.

Any number of hardware or RAM tests would not show a problem, at least with the ones I had at my disposal.

The bad RAM possibility is definitely an option, as is a corrupt hard drive. Did you read my writeup?
