For once, there is a thread about something wrong with a MacBook that is NOT APPLE'S FAULT. Wow... such a novel idea...

Is it just me, or is there anyone here klutz-ish enough to spill water on their MacBook? Well, that's what happened. I bought it exactly a month and a day ago, so I'm still in warrantly, but will they still fix it or replace it being that it's my fault? or should I not tell them it's my fault.... *evil grin* All I know is that I need my MacBook and that I won't have any more of this stealing my mom's Windblows laptop to check my email

TAKE THE BATTERY OUT NOW!!!! open the laptop,set it upside down and leave it alone for a COUPLE of days. it's only water, not molasses.

Yes but if the damage is already done and it's shorted out, R.I.P. Do as gooser said though, put it in a warm place and let it dry out.

The absolute worst thing to do when you spill a liquid on an electronic anything is to immediately see if it still works!
Unplug it, yank the battery and let it sit in a warm dry place. For a long time!
I have removed keyboards from laptops on many occasion. It is amazing how much liquid it will hold before stuff starts oozing into the logic board.

As far as scamming the warranty, they will know if there is water damage.

yeah... I left it alone for about 18 hours and came back and all but a .25 centimters of the screen were fine... plus, I have a dark background so you can't notice the screw-upage.

shoulda had a keyboard protector like the one frm iskin.

in any case, theres a chance it might work if u can dry everything off. Sometimes this requires disassemble or setting out to dry for a while. If u have a dehumidifier, set it next to that.

If all else fails, i say the only choice u have (since apple wont help u because they know its water damage) is to disassemble it. If u cant do it urself, spend some money and give it to an apple repair shop. (Although they might tell u stuff like, logicboard and dvddrive needs to be replaced, without even trying to fix it). So if u got the guts, i say go ahead and disassemble urself.

Now do not underestimate the complexity of a laptop, especially an Apple one. I say the best thing for u to do in order to remember what screws ur taking off and where they go, is to devise a very good labeling and separation system that will tell u exactly how to put it back together when ur done. There are lots of disassembly guides, but no reassembly guides. This might sound outrageous, but you could also tape urself do this on video.

Sorry if this is scaring u. Just try to dry it out first, like at least 72 hours, and then take the steps u would like to take. Good luck.

Spilling something on my laptop is a recurring nightmare scenario. ;-(
