After seeing that ringtones bought at the iTunes store can be faded-in and faded-out, I thought that would be a cool thing to add to my own custom ringtones. Keep in mind, this will only work with firmware 1.0.2 until Ambrosia figures out a way to get iToner to work with 1.1.1.
  1. Trim audio track in Quicktime Pro to 30 sec (or however long it takes to get to voicemail for you).
  2. Export song as AIFF.
  3. Import song into iTunes, convert it to mp3 or AAC, and find the file in the Finder.
  4. Drag the trimmed AAC or mp3 file into a new GarageBand project.
  5. Under the track name in GarageBand, click the down arrow to reveal the track volume control (it's next to the lock button).
  6. Drag the volume level down to the minimum (-144 dB) at the start and the end. Pull the volume back up to 0 dB (or higher if you want a louder ringtone) for where you want the fade in to end and the fade out to begin.
  7. To export the ringtone, select "Export to Disk..." from the "Share" menu.
  8. Drag exported ringtone into iToner. That's it!
