I dropped my jawbone about 54 inches when I read that 25,600 ISO boost.

I built a ringlight today from christmas lights, a pasta strainer and a few tie wraps. Pretty cool, I need someone prettier to test it on though.

I snapped this with my trusty Canon PowerShot SD550 a couple weeks back while in DC. I thought it turned out nicely. It hasn't been touched at all except to scale it down in size. I can only imagine about a million other people have taken the same shot.

Almost forgot... it's the Jefferson Memorial for those who wonder.

The same 9 Point AF and 3.5 FPS. Nikon will lower the D700 to $2599 and that will be that with a far superior AF and 8fps with the grip. The Canon sports shooters are not very happy on the forums. Nice for Nature shooters though.

Wait for Nov 8th. I think you will be in for quite a surprise from the Dark Side. Can't comment any further.

Oh, I'm no Canon fan boy. If Nikon could push out a full-frame camera at $2,000 or less, I'd be all over it.

The 5D, though long in the tooth, is capable of producing some absolutely stunning images, especially when used with Canon's L-series primes.

Probably would've popped a bit more with a polarizing filter. You could pull up the vibrance in Lightroom, Aperture, or PS too.

I like the composition and what not, and the eyes speak loudly to me, but the mouth doesn't portray the same emotion. It looks like he's swallowed his lower lip or something.

Thanks.

Yeah, he kept doing that with his mouth the whole time he was in my office. I just snapped this one while he was talking to me and looking out my window. It's an annoying new habit he's developed. Annoying from a photographic sense more than anything else, though.

The optimum technique is to wait for an overcast day as a sunny day would blow out the details in the window. You have a little blow out there, but not too bad. A reflector on the boy's left/camera right would have lit the shadows a bit more.

Actually, in a picture like this, I think the blow-out in the window just adds to the atmosphere of the image. I love it.

Especially impressive for being a random snapshot.

Thank you much!

Also, to Mastrap...thought about what you said a few weeks ago and have been "finding" what I want to do. I think I'm getting a little closer.

New favorite photographer: Henri Cartier-Bresson. He abhorred flash, stuck to B&W, and was a master at capturing fleeting moments while being in total stealth mode. I know it's not an original pick, but the guy was awesome.

Sweet little shot. The only thing I might would've done differently is get level with the ground and shoot it from a lower perspective, but I don't know how I'd feel face-down on wet pavement in NYC (in other words, I'd have done it the same way).

That said, I really like it. Kind of a weird, tragic feel to it. All you need is some burning cars in the background.

Here's two from a shoot with my cousin for his upcoming album, out next month. These images are still technically under somewhat of an embargo, but the 'NN is the only place where I can share them without being worried about potential buyers seeing them.

First one = great album shot.

Second one = too sour-looking for an album shot (unless of course he makes emo music, in which case it fits perfectly).

#1 - Thanks!

#2 - Yeah, it's a bit grim. He didn't like the way any of his smiling (or even smirking) shots turned out, either. I figured you might mention the awkward way his sleeve is falling (I never cared for it). Definitely needed some tighter sleeves.

I like the second shot, especially the lines in the wall drawing your eyes to your cousin's face, and like, Oisín said, the first one works really well for an album.

In regards to your comment about my photo. I would have loved to have spent more time taking photos from different angles, but I was actually in the middle of the street taking these. The lights had just changed and I had a few seconds to fire off a bunch of photos. Oh yeah, it was also raining very heavily.

It's not a bad stock-type picture, but it doesn't seem to have a story with it.

I should have had my camera with me this weekend; yesterday morning I was treated to some really wonderfully "deep" vistas in the hills in North Austin. It was misty, cloudy, and the whole area was just beautifully "layered" with different amounts of mist and shadow.
