Please don't post inline images of desktops. They are heavy bandwidth heavy and highly obnoxious for modem users.

Below is my standard desktop with background. The background is one of the many creative projects I started and never quite got around to finishing I may eventually go back to working on it. Note all the app's running

This is with Classic running, and a project I'm working on in Painter 5, unfortunately I had to fudge the pic into a version that could be "grabbed". For some weird reason "Grab" wouldn't show the real Painter window, but it would show the tool palettes

for whatever reason the images didn't show-up so here's the links

Mike

Nevermind For some reason I can't post an image through IE 5.1 on OSX so I had to boot back into OS 9.1 just to fix them. Is this a common problem?

I would.... but I don't want to get my account terminated. Actually... since I am distributing them right now... I could still get my account terminated. Anyone know a good free web-host? I need to transfer my files soon...

Here is mine:
http://homepage.mac.com/spirit_vw/Desktop.jpg

"Desktop" is capitalized. That's my New Beetle, in Trinity Park, Fort Worth, Texas. I scanned the image on my Canon N1220U via Classic (!) and did some tweaking, such as adding the drop shadow.

So, I finally get around to adding my take on the OS X desktop. It's nothing highly innovative, just my view on simplicity at it's finest!

I try to find or make a new desktop everyday.
I found a few nice ones here.

Here are some I've made, up to now.

Upload them to Scrod's hotline server. Go to Hotline server "scrod.wox.org" with no name or password and you can upload them there - the weird PastelBlue one already been uploaded.

Nice, but what's that dock type thingy in the top right. Is it NexBar? Doesn't look like it. Oh yeah, and you might want to read your Email more frequently - 96 messages at one time's gonna take you ages!

The dock in the upper right is the Process Dock from DragThing 4.01. (It's also responsible for the dock in the lower left)

As for the email, I haven't fully converted from Eudora, so that's just for filling out the mail box to try out the app.

Evil Homer, how did you change the icons for your hard drives? They can't be aliases 'cos you've got a zip drive mounted on your desktop. I thought the only way to change the icons was to make an alias of your HD and then not show HDs on the desktop (which BTW, didn't work for me!)

Allright.. a little late, but here are my screenshots...
http://homepage.mac.com/aldie/

On the screenshot at the bottom of the page I was pushing OS X to the max. It was running 23 apps and Bomb was trying to crash to OS. (didn't happen )

With so much apps open, OS X was still usable though. Something I didn't expected, because I have only 128 MB of RAM. Guess it has a better VM-implentation then OS 9.

Have fun with the pics.

OK, here's mine. Nothing special. Basically showing my background image and the stuff in my dock. I don't normally have magnification on, but I needed to add some flash.

claudej: Do you have those pictures you took in a higher quality? Those jpg's don't do them justice. If you do, I'd like to have them. Otherwise I'll get the jpg's from your website. my e-mail is: [email protected]

mr_sonicblue: What's that mp3 player? It's interesting. I like how it fits in with your desktop so well. Very calm.

cream: I rather like the dark-graphite theme. The copper one is a bit intrusive. Did you make them yourself? Can you distribute?

I haven't tried any themes that I've found yet. None of them appeal to me. I've gotten used to Aqua, just as I did Platinum. Anyone else think themes just aren't for them?

I am looking for Theminator though. I've seen it pop up on Hotline, but didn't get it. Right now I can't find it.

Very interesting Deskop pics from everybody though. This thread has been around quite a while. I wonder how long people will add to it.

looking at the screen shots from cream, I think it's safe to say they are doctored. i could be wrong, but I don't think changing a scheme is also going to change your build number. Also, look at the menus that are popped open, there's a displacement in one, and an awkward lie in the other.

When I say the other, by the way, i'm referringto the TIFF that is open of the "Dark Platinum" build.

You are. I don't think they are doctored. If he made those schemes he did a good job. Although I wouldn't choose them myself, they have a lot of consistency and it's thorough.

No, just changing the Extras.rsrc wouldn't change the build number. You can do that with TextEdit. Also, changing things like the pict in the "About this Mac" window isn't hard either. I'm sure it's just another tiff.

When selecting a menu, it uses another little image. By default, it's a blue aqua-lines background. The "displacement" you talk about is because the creator of that theme chose to make it a 180 degree turn of the regular menubar. I thought at first it was a vertical flip, but the left and right don't match exactly, so I think it's turned. The awkward lie in the other appears to be nothing more than an invert of a rounded menubar. It would look awkward, but that's an interesting look.

If he didn't create those themes, he must have used an installer. If he did create those themes, I hope he made an installer. That is a lot more than an Extras.rsrc file to swap out.

Hey cream, now that I know you made em... nice job. What's your e-mail address?
