We have a company domain with Network Solutions. Recently we switched from B'berrys to iPhones. Incoming mail works fine, but outbound is a no-go. The iPhones can't connect with NS's smpt servers.

I have gone through several rounds of reentering account info, deleting accounts and recreating them. Some of this has been done with the help of NS 2nd-tier techs and Apple Genius Bar techs. Nothing works.

I recently spoke to a Verizon tech who was formerly with NS. He told me that this problem is endemic and that he was usually unable to solve it. He said NS wants me to go to 3rd tier tech so they can charge me $40 - $60 per account to fix the problem by accessing our phones directly.

So, in essence, they want to charge me upwards of $200 to fix all of the accounts I have with them.

Meanwhile I do not have this problem with Yahoo servers.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Chuck

BTW, the fix that Apple suggested was "GoDaddy".

Silly thought: I hope you're entering the server name correctly if it has "smtp" in its name. You misspelled it twice as "smpt" in this post.

Seriously, can you connect on other platforms, like on a Mac or PC?

Good point Steve! I creamed the contents of my braincase over the past few days on this -- beyond any help from Spellcorrect.

I did enter the setting correctly -- probably several times during the past 15+ attempts.

Meanwhile, I finally have a solution: from NS's 3rd tier tech 10 minutes ago. The amazing thing is he didn't seem to be doing anything differently than I did -- but the bloody smtp server is now responding!!

Thanks for your inpout! (er...input) )

So you still don't know what the root cause of the issue was ? Odd.
