ok i started having this problem today. i've repaired permissions twice, uninstalled and reinstalled three times, but still can not get the app to work. if i try opening stuffit expander or try and expand a file that i've downloaded, the app freezes and does not respond. upon opening, the app will bounce in the dock a few times then stop. clicking on the icon does not bring the app into focus. the only way to close it is to force quit.

im running osx 10.3.7 and the latest release of stuffit expander (9).

any help would be appreciated.

thanks.

same problem here!

Stuffit Expander just won't launch. It bounces... bounces... and keeps bouncing. Then it stops. Weird.

There is none. Stuffit is a proprietary format.

Unplug Ethernet and modem cables from your computer, disable AirPort, run StuffIt Expander and simply disable the update check feature in the preferences.

How should we go about encouraging developers to use .dmg or .zip, .tar archiving instead of a proprietary closed format like stuffit?

I have always really hates Stuffit on OSX.

BTW Little Snitch didnt pick up on it trying to connect to the network, and im sure i disable version checking in the first place.hrmmmmmm

God damn it, Stuffit. Get your stuff together. Arghhhhhhhhhh.
*Looks to get alternative*
You'd think they'd be on top of this by now.

I cringe when I see OS X software distributed as .sit or .sitx; I really don't see the point at all.

SitX offers excellent compression rates, is cross-platform, supports long files names, HFS metadata including Unix permissions and resource forks. It's actually a very good compression format.

The format maybe fine but when there is only 1 POS app that can dcecode the format then its useless!!!

That and the fact that it's proprietary are what irritate me the most.

OS X software does not need to be compressed in a cross-platform format, and .dmg (which can then be .gz'd or .bz2'd if you really wanted to) supports long filenames, HFS metadata, UNIX permissions, and resource forks just fine.

So again, I don't see the point for OS X software.
