Are Daisuke Yamashita and Takashi Izawa related?

I think I found Izawa's source of inspiration: Daisuke Yamashita
I've been using Yamashita's OZ-6 K-Scheme and I find it ressembles Izawa's AlumiteX theme. Take a look, notice the Apple menu, indentations and same grey colour
OZ-6
AlumiteX
What do u think?

They are pretty darn similar. I remember I used to LOVE Alumite.

Well look damn similar to me. Maybe Izawa is his pupil, you know some sort of martial art theme making school.

wasn't alumite a k-scheme as well before it was updated for OSX? Which one came first?

Nope., he's wrong....AlumiteX K-Scheme came after the OSX theme.
OZ-6 even has the same striped Finder backgound as AlumiteX. I never liked Izawa's K-Schemes, they were too out there. I think OS X's limitations helped bring his themes more down to earth. And who knows, maybe Yamashita helped him.

Can't install it anymore It all happened when I tried to reformat my hard drive and reinstall, the installation seemed to have worked...it restarted and right at the bootscreen I get a kernel panic. Don't know why, maybe my hard drive is corrupted. All I know is i can still install and use 9.2.2 and 10.0.4 (can't even install 10.1...there the installation gives me an error). Anyways that's why, thinking of buying a new hard drive, maybe that will help.

I used only AlumiteX for the longest time, now it looks a bit bland when compared with new themes.

Something like that happened to me too! I have a QS 733, and I had to replace the 40 gig hd with a new one. I now use a seagate 7800 RPM 60 gig, which is working great and is much more silent.
Sticking to the topic, I think everyone draws their inspiration from somewhere, it's hard to come up with something that's never been done before.

Ah, ya that would have helped... lol
I had a similar problem when my hard drive was dyeing. OS X didn't like to boot and it was all slow. I got the hard drive replaced and it worked fine again.

True - it can even take years and can drive you nearly mad Having said that, I find the best place to find inspiration is not necessarily in pre-existing GUI designs, but in totally unrelated real world objects and materials... the surfaces in BBX Mercury were inspired by the silver finish on some otherwise unexciting Ford automobile I noticed while on a smoke break in the winter of 2000-2001 - the owner seemed pretty confused when he came back to his vehicle to see that I had gingerly wiped certain areas free of snow and grime and was poised there with a digital camera on a tripod capturing images of his door handles and wheel wells. My studio was in the Alias|Wavefront building at the time so I just told him I was a texture artist looking for surfaces and that seemed to diffuse his freaked out state (seemed simpler than telling him I was going to build a silver Kaleidoscope scheme). I find that the surfaces themselves tell me what shape they should be etc.
