I have a PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25 MDD that is just over a year old now, and I have strange noise and static coming through the sound card all the time. It's been there since I've had the machine, and when I asked Apple they insisted that it was my speakers. I decided to plug headphones directly into the speaker output and the static is still there.

Has anyone else had these problems?

I will have to call Apple again, but I have to find a time where I can go a few days without my mac.

Note: I tried to do a search on this topic, but MacNN's search engine has been down for a little while.

I have the daul 1.0 MDD and have never had a constant noise coming from speakers or headphones like you describe. I occasionally get some interference but generally when I am plugging something in and only for a few seconds.

Did you plug the headphones into the front or back, or both? Is the sound everywhere?

Does a restart fix it?

Maybe zap the PRAM, but I have no idea whether that will help so don't do it until you know exactly what setting it will reset.

Good luck talking to Apple about the issue, my advice is to stay nice to them at all costs. Call every day of the week but don't start screaming at them and demanding some service. (not that you arew doing that but there are people who do)
