They'll be available until they run out of stock. They have stopped producing them, so if you want one, get it quick.

Hi!

I have just read on a German website that according to the spokesman for Apple Germany, only the the single CPU model is discontinued, the dual CPU model will still be available.

There are a few sites that got the statement incorrect. Some sites say the single is discontinued. They say this because the standard config is the single and the dual is BTO. But Apple stated ALL G4 PowerMac production is stopped. Go to www.maccentral.com and read the bit about the G4 at the bottom of the G5 announcement thread.

well, a friend just placed a order on Apple Store to get two G5 2.5 GHz with 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HD, fiberchannel, and of course BT keyboards and mouses. Maybe he does not need anynore his PowerMac G4 Dual

When he said that to me, those were my faces reactions:

If they truly were discontinuing them and selling the remaining stock, one would think they would sell them on the Hot Deals page and stop advertising them, at least on the regular online store. But they're still there. If they don't disappear soon I'll assume someone's cell phone connection dropped off while they were talking to the Apple spokesperson.

Once again, all Power Mac G4s are discontinued. Quote from the article; Power Mac G4s discontinued

In announcing the new Power Mac G5s, Apple also indicated that its Power Mac G4 has been taken out of production. Up until now, Apple has continued to manufacture 1.25GHz Power Mac G4 systems; single processor versions have been available at Apple retailers while the Apple Store has continued to make a dual-processor version available as a build-to-order option. Apple said the Power Mac G4 "will no longer be in production and is available for purchase while supplies last." MacCentral confirmed that this applies to all Power Mac G4 models.

But this isn't about OS 9 though. Yes, OS 9 is dead. But there is no reason why the days of Apple having an expandable machine for under $2,000 should be dead as well.

I have two PC friends that I have been trying to convert for months, and both of them were looking at a single processor 1.25 G4 or a refurbished dual 1.25 to start saving up for.

I agree...

There is a huge hole in the Apple range now.

Not good news.

With OS X I'd never recommend a single processor Mac and a Dual 1.25 sounds a little slow for someone who comes from the PC side of the fence. A nice Dual 1.8 G5 sounds reasonable, though, and at $1999 is a good deal. But I can see you'd have to go over your $2000 budget to outfit the dual 1.8 G5 nicely - add RAM, add a better video card, etc.

Geez.....I remember when Apple discontinued my trusty old IIGS and I was FORCED to move to a Mac....and then soon enough there were no floppy drives.....and no scsi....and no adb. I've never looked at the demise of any of them favorably at the time. If one of you is willing to buy me a 1.8 dual you can HAVE my 2001 QS 933.....really.

The point is, though, Apple doesn't have a headless Mac priced less than $1900 except for the G4, and if that is indeed discontinued without a suitable replacement Apple will be making a huge mistake.

The more I think of this, the more I think we may, or should I say hopefully, see a sub-powermac. Otherwise the whole line up just doesn't make sense.

Perhaps the days of the iMac AIO as we know it are finally over come WWDC?

They are a little too 'smurf' to me... a little 'toy' rather than Pro. Although they were great when put in context of the times they were released in...

I bought a 1.25 G4 OS9/OSX PM in July 2003. There were reports then that Apple was no longer producing the dual booting G4 PM and would only sell them until stock ran out, thus, for better or worse, this isn't new news.....
