I assume I'm not alone in really wanting Dogecoin to somehow become the leading cryptocurrency.

People are delusional. There is almost no barrier of entry for crypto currencies. It's easier to create new ones than printing money. Therefore, the value of most will eventually go to 0.

There is a legitimate use as a transaction currency, but right now, that purpose is overshadowed by speculation. Speculation and volatility will be the death of crypto currencies as a medium of payment and exchange.

The current value of Dogecoin is $0.00107 per coin.

This index is delayed by 15 minutes.

If a person wants to be serious about CCs and mining them, the ones to check out are Peercoin and Litecoin, the former over the latter at this point.

I have ~420k Doges at this point, which is like... $130.

I assume the question is how many GPUs did he throw at it.

4x Radeon 290x, 3x Radeon 7970, and a 12-core Xeon Mac Pro, but the last is rather pathetic compared to the GPUs, accounting for <5% of coins. The GPU mining FAQ is here. I'm not sure, but it's very possible that I'm using more electricity than what I'm getting in coins, and it's slowed down by half since I started. Oh, also I've lost ~1% to "fleas", which are fragments that "hop off" during "digging" and wind up in other "kennels". At this point I think I'm going to Litecoin or Peercoin, this was fun but it'll never be more than meme silliness, I'm afraid.

Even though I'm sure the "fleas" are funneling right into the creator's kennel, that idea is so awesome, they deserve to get paid for it.

I don't mind them getting paid, but they should tell people.

Yeah, most people suck and the others are far too trusting. That's why I don't pool my VCs with others, they stay on my local machine, kilobit encrypted with a 20-something digit passcode.
