Any thoughts on what the best way to clean a G4 iMac's combo drive?

Mine's having trouble reading the odd DVD lately (new ones, and old ones that previously played fine - and no, they're not scratched at all, they all play in the player hooked up to the tv). It even has troubled mounting a couple of discs (just whirrs and spins, but never mounts). I figure the laser has become pretty grotty (it is over 2 years old, and never cleaned before), so just want the best way to take care of it.
