well, i got my hands on a disfunctional 333mhz lombard for cheap and i am trying to convert it to, well, a laptop that works...the thing will chime and the hard drive spins up, but that is the end of it. i tried connecting it to an external monitor...no dice. i have been reading about the L2 cache on these things failing. i am at a loss how to diagnose the situation though...any thoughts? i am hoping the l2 cache is the culprit (then i will buy a processor upgrade card), but cannot think of anyway to verify this.

if i were to take this to a "professional," what would their diagnostic procedure be? attach it to some kind of gismo?

check the RAM's, they can cause freeze-ups during boot. I don't know anything about this ' 333mhz lombard ' , but if you have 2 RAM slots, try removing a stick, or changing its place ... or if you can try with another stick ... good luck

figured it out! i had a functioning lombard too, so i swapped their logic boards and that solved it! took a year and a half to take them apart and reassemble, but well worth it. now i have to find someone to sell me a new logic board

That's the procedure a tech would have been likely to follow.
