Folks,
Last night I installed a Superdrive purchased from OWC into my 1Ghz eMac. I have the "Rev B" eMac, so the installation was pretty easy and took me about 40 minutes at a sedate pace. The thing works great, too. I burned an iDVD presentation immediately.
For the $75 it cost for the new drive, this is great functionality. I recommend it to anyone thinking about doing it. And the DVD presentations are really easy to create.
The one thing that scared me was the CRT discharge. I made a tool with a screwdriver, wire, and some alligator clamps, but I never got the "pop" noise I was expecting. I wonder if the eMac CRT has its own discharge circuitry?
Anyway, if anyone has questions, let me know.
Tom
