I have a chance to purchase a second hand 7600/200 and I am finding it almost impossible to find any information on it other than when it was released - Feb 1997 I believe - I need it to replace my old 6200/75 and I want to run both OS7 and OS8+ in separate partitions on the hard drive ( I need OS 7 for some Music software I want to keep active)
Does anyone know of any good or bad points I should be aware of on this model?

look at postings referring to 75-7600's and 85-8600's. they are essentially the same macs in a tower(8500) or desktop(7500) case. 3 PCI slots, 40-50 Mhz bus,4 VRAM slots capable of 1Mb each, motherboard L2 cache capable of 1Mb, 8RAM slots capable of taking 128Mb each and a processor daughter card for easy upgrading. The case is very accessible. very good, versatile mac if you don't need a lot of PCI slots

I bought a 7600/132 and upgraded it to a 233 604e about a year ago. Its a great machine, the case whips my 8500's tookous when you need to install something inside. It might be worthwhile to invest in a G3 daughtercard, they are less than 180$ now. Fast machine, great case design, no hassel. Go for it

very similar to the 7300, the 7600 is a very stable machine in a convenient case with good power supply, capable of memory interleaving (that means you can install DIMMs in pairs to get a littel additional edge in RAM speed). Both machines take either Fast Page (FPM) or EDO memory, but only either one kind or the other in all the RAM slots.

The 7600 has ethernet on board (10 Mb) and inside the case there is room for another internal hard drive or a zip. The standard hard drive has been a 2 GB SCSI type, CD-ROM drive is also SCSI.

Overall the 7600 is a great machine, I have bought some of them second hand and never had problems with them.

The 7600/120 has also some special audio/video in and out sockets (which I do not use), but may be of some interest for you. Most probably the 7600/200 will have the same circuitry.

Aha...Gotcha!
The BEST buy ever. Mine was 7600/120 32MB, now it is ... G3 300 160 MB RAM 2+2+2 GB SCSI HD, Firewire PCI card and very soon I'll install a TurboMax Ultra IDE 66 controller ($129) from ProMax, a coupl'o 20GB ULTRA ATA33 HD.... It has been kicked, dropped, spitted on, cursed at but it works better than any of my friends G3s... When the time comes I will paint it Blue and White and sell it as a Brand new G3 B&W (because thats what it will be).

BTW I forgot to mention that you can run:
MacOS 7.xx, MacOS 8.xx, MacOS 9.xx, BeOS, LinuxPPC, Windows 9.xx (VPC) etc. all on separate partitions or disks!

Thanks for all that info and encouragement folks - I have contacted my Mac dealer and let him know that as soon as he can arrange the adoption papers I will travel to town ( 100 miles away) to pick up the new baby :-)
If it is half as good as you all say I may retire my iMac !
