I just noticed that the Apple Store website is down. What are they doing on a Sunday evening?

They're probably putting up the tackiest President's Day sale graphics EVER!
...no, but that would be pretty funny to see on the Apple website, wouldn't it?

I was about to tell you you're gonna be Tookied, but never mind.
And for me, it's not loading at all, perhaps they're just having server problems.

And now it's back down again, I doubt they're doing anything important, just changing some graphics or else they're having server issues.

Sorry to be dense or out of the vibe, but why is the Apple store being down (as it often appears to be) reason for another thread stating that it's down?
I slept last night. Start a thread.
I slept the night before that. Start a thread.
I plan to sleep tonite. Start a thread?
What's the significance or what is to be gained by starting a new thread each time it's down? I'm not ragging, I'm just curious about what purpose is served.
It's kinda like when Rover panics when Master goes to work every day because he thinks Master will never return.
But at the end of the day there is Master.
And the next day Rover panics again because he thinks Master will never return.
But at the end of the day there is Master.
Repeat ad infinitum.
Am I missing something here?

Why is their store so poorly designed they they have to take it down to update graphics or products?

For some reason it looks like a lot of people think the Apple Store site is taken down to announce The Next Super Cool Thing and nothing else. What evidence shows is that they occasionally take it down to change some graphics here and there, or to set up a new advertising gimmic. And occasionally they add a brand new product (or an updated old one) and the new graphics they put up are all about that.
Put the "OMG the Apple Store is down!" concept with the nebulous "Next Monday they're going to announce new products-my hairdresser told me!" mentality, and any glitch on the Apple Store site becomes "the buzz." But it's not. It's just a glitch.

Every time the Apple store goes down, God smites a geek. We're just checking to see that we're all still here.

Actually, it looks like they added Quad-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express cards for the Mac Pro and Intel Xserves. I think this will spur a 20% jump in Apple's stock and they'll be out of stock before the ship...

I wish the mods could do something fancy so any thread that is started with "Apple store down" automatically gets instantly locked.

Holy sh¡t, someone smart enough to bump an old version of the thread rather than start a new one.

Eh, who cares if the Apple Store is down? If something interesting is there when it comes back up, THEN make a thread about it.
