It's the same way with most books and movies. Almost all movies that were based on books suck, while books that were based on movies suck even more.

I thought the movie "the Talented Mr. Ripley" was much better than the book.

I think that you can say that most movies from video games suck, but there are far too many video games from movies to know for sure that they all bite the big one.

Video Games to Movies:
Mario Bros - ugh. why did they bother?
Street Fighter - double ugh.
Double Dragon - no one saw this movie. i'm betting there was a good reason.
Mortal Kombat - actually decent. but only because of the music.

in the works:
Resident Evil

Movies to Video Games:
T2 - the shooting one in the arcade. i remember liking it.
Star Wars Pinball - R2 screaming in this game still haunts me
and more...

most of the rest are mediocre or just plain suck.

I've got high hopes for the Final Fantasy movie. The animation is disturbingly realistic, and anyone who's played one of the games knows Squaresoft can weave one hell of a tale.

Yeah, that game just absolutely freaking ruled, completely amazing. Better than the movie, IMO, which was damn good too...

One of the best games of all time. No question.

I found the latest FF game on PSX to be the most horridly boring game I've ever had the displeasure of playing. Boring, lame graphics, and like zero action.

To fight, you click a button!

"sword swipe"
"you have missed"
"giant caterpillars turn:"
"tail swing"
"you have been killed"

Ugh. Awful.
You get the idea.

Yeah, that's the way all turn-based RPGs are. They annoy me after awhile but I remember loving Super Mario RPG on SNES. That was a great RPG made by Square and Nintendo.

RPGs are just attract a very certain type of gamer. i can totally understand why someone wouldnt like them. but i enjoy playing them. its not my favorite type of game though.

goldeneye is a great call for a videogame from a movie.

i dont know if final fantasy will be good or not. ive seen some pieces of trailers, and i will go see it for sure but im reserving judgement til i actually see it.

ooh. i just thought of another one. TRON in the arcades was a great videogame from a movie.

Um, besides GoldenEye ...

I'll say X-Wing and Tie-Fighter and that series. Awesome space sims. There've been some other ok Star Wars games too.

As for movies, Tomb Raider is our only hope. But I'd still rather see a new Indiana Jones.

I have a PS2 and I STILL bust out the N64 to play Goldeneye and own all the ppl who challenge me, hehe.

Anyways...I heard Blizzard is making a live actor version of the Diablo series...and they are "determined to prove that movies based on video games don't have to suck" (or something like that)

We will see!

i can't wait for the ff movie.
the games are great... i mean, they're no fallout in terms of roleplay,
but they're definitely gorgeous stories, which is why i have such high hopes for the movie.

i'm also shamelessly looking forward to tomb raider...
...yeah, angelina's great.

ah well,
what can you say.

and x-wing/tie fighter were great, great games.
