Here's a simple question. Can I open a Mac produced Quark file on a PC also equipped with Quark?
thanks

I have had it work.
I have had it fail.
Depends on your Karma.
How unreasonable of you to hope for an app to work the way it's supposed to.

If you have the same versions of Quark on both machines. And, most importantly, you need the exact same fonts on the PC.
If you have a long Doc your text may reflow, even if you have the same fonts.

Yikes! That doesn't sound very good.
Hmm...I guess my client will find out how well it does work on their PC.
I'm setting up a template for their newsletter so hopefully it won't be that bad as they'll be flowing in the copy.

An aside...silly, yes but anyways...
Make sure the file you send to them is on a Windows formatted disc. I have had agencies send Mac files on Mac formatted discs and if you don't have a 3rd party program (or a Mac) they won't see anything at all. Windows usually brings up a dialogue box asking if you would like to format it...
Of course e mailing the file will work most times...

You should also name the file so that it follows the "xxxxxxxx.qxd" format where xxxxxxx is 8 letters and .qxd is the extension to enable whatever version of Windows they use to identify it as a Quark document.

I do a few "once a year" newsletters... every single company tries to do it themselves (you know, the old "We just got Quark for the PC" so we are going to do it next year)... and every year I get a call... "Can we send you a Quark file and have you design the newsletter?"
Fonts are coming around on the PC side, but so many people still have problems with them.
