Has anyone ever gotten Windows Media Player (6 or 7b) to work effectively on the macintosh? I'm running 9.1 on dual-450 G4, 512MB ram, etc... fairly powerful machine, yet any windows media stream I try to watch plays for 5 seconds then freezes for 30 seconds and just keeps going like that - 5sec/30sec on and on.
My question is this:
Are there software incompatabilities? I can't imagine Microsoft releasing a bit of code THIS bad, so give me some input here...

Hi, at least your getting a picture. I have the Window's Media 7 for the mac and now when I click on a video it say's Unable to connect to Proxy. What is that? Also, when I try to view a 4 minute video my freind made in Windows Media I get a screen with all these codes on it instead.

Try WMP 6.3. It may be better but I would really suggest QT 5. I try to stay away from WMP media because the quality stinks and it doesnt load streaming media as fast as QT does.

It hasn't given me any probs the few times I've used it.
I just keep it installed for Mac DivX player, version 6.3.
7 sucks. Get 6.3.
But avoid it toally if at all possible...

Version 6.26 works ok, but it tends to 'get stuck' while streaming. I also have trouble with the browser plugin's mime settings - some sites recognize it and others don't.

All in all, it's crap. I didn't expect anything too good from MS in the streaming media department, however 7b is really bad. I installed it and trashed it within an hour. I tried it on a G4 400 AGP 8.6 and a G4 Dual 400 OS 9.04 . It is that bad.

99% of your problems is that it's by Microsoft. My suggestion is to trash that piece of crap and look for an alternative.

Heh, Yeah WMP is pretty bad. I liked it better when it was titled "Microsoft Media Player for Macintosh." It's all quite buggy though.

Cheers for QuickTime
