Today Quark Software announced that QuarkXPress 2015, the next major version of Quark's design and layout tool for print and digital publishing, will be available on April 28. The company claims that QuarkXPress 2015 will deliver increased performance with a new 64-bit architecture, efficient print and digital production, and many of the most user-requested features. The new version of QuarkXPress will continue to be sold as a perpetual license.

Features added to the new release include automatic footnotes and end notres, better Excel integration, verified PDF/X-4 output, larger page sizes, a dedicated orthogonal line tool, and custom paper sizes. Table styles, and a format painter have also been refined from previous versions of the tools.

In anticipation of the availability of QuarkXPress 2015, Quark has launched the Buy QuarkXPress 10, Get QuarkXPress 2015 promotion. Everyone who purchases or upgrades to QuarkXPress 10 before April 28, 2015 will receive a completely free upgrade to QuarkXPress 2015 when it is available. For current QuarkXPress 10 users, Quark is offering an upgrade to the new version for $249.

If this article would have been released a day later - today, April 1 - some of us would have wondered if this was a prank. I used to despise QuarkXPress, but now I despise Adobe more. I wish Quark, or anyone, would release a competitive alternative to InDesign and the rest of Creative Cloud suite.
