Im on an iMac 3.5 GHz i7 with hybrid drive and 16 GB RAM

OS 10.9.5

from time to time while emptying the trash there is a brief 2 - 3 second pause here and

there the rest of the machine , if doing somthing I can notive slows way down.

why is this ? it does not happen every time but its a bit odd.

Is it spinning up an HDD, perhaps?

I dont think so

only when there are several other processes going on. the OS cant seem to make up its mind what to do

more or less.

I've had this in prior versions of the OS when permissions have been a little wacky -- that doesn't feel like this particular problem, though.
