Mishakim,

Just click the video in the Now Playing area to play it in a separate window.

Since the ITMS doesn't let you save the videos that it offers for viewing to your HD I can't see a lot of use for this new feature. Unless you are one to scour the net or hit the P2P networks to find music videos I don't see how you can get a lot of mileage out of this enhancement. Even with QT Pro the plugin used on the ITMS doesn't enable you to save the file ... so what's the point of all this?

They seriously need to think about rebranding iTunes, seeing as they keep rolling more and more of the other iApps features into it. It's iTunes. Why the hell are they putting in photo/movie/contact mananaging?

The thing is, if Apple releases a video iPod, I bet:

1) It won't play any .avi files, and therefore none of my backuped Divx movies.

2) Even if I can convert my backed up movies to .mov using the Divx quicktime plugin, the video iPod won't support 3rd party video plugins.

So Apple can take its video iPod and **** themselves with it.

5 things Apple should have done to iTunes before adding video playback:

1) Add AAC VBR encoding
2) Allow for nested playlists
3) Add support for multiple libraries
4) Add more refined batch-encoding capabilities, so that I won't necessarily get a bunch of duplicate library entries when transcoding from WAV to Lossless, or Lossless to AAC, etc.
5) Improve the Soundtrack feature enough that I might actually trust it to mess around with all of my files.

More crappiness ....

The "Play Video" checkbox in advanced preferences is a tad bit uh ... "misleading". Let's say I didn't want to use iTunes to playback video at all. So I go and uncheck this option. One would think that the View Fullscreen button would go away right? Not! More importantly, one would think that you wouldn't be able to play any of the movie files at all right? Not! What happens is that the file plays .... only you hear the music track only and the Now Playing area remains blank. But if you click in this area you can see the video playing in the separate window. Or if you click the fullscreen button you see it like that. The preference is essentially not respected by the app. WTF is Apple thinking with this half-assed implemented feature is beyond me!

OAW

PS: I see why Apple didn't really advertise the availability of this new feature. It doesn't appear to be quite ready for prime time!

Agreed. Gapless would have been nice, too.

Here I was, hoping for a major upgrade to iTunes 5. Now I know I'll have a much longer wait than I was hoping for.

You could always do what I do. As the Quicktime movie is loading do a spotlight search for all files created in the last 24 hours. Most likely, the largest file (after the video is half way done loading) is the quicktime cache file. As soon as the movie is done loading, drag that file to your desktop and rename it before the system can delete it. You got cho movie bro!

Actually, I'm the opposite I was having to open iSync every time I connected my iPod as I only ever connected to update my music. This is a lot easier for me.

Its really very stupid how the whole syncing mess works in 10.4...

Now I've got to deal with three different sync methods.

iSync.app for devices (like my bluetooth cellphone)
iSync .mac for .mac services
iTunes for iPod

If you leave iSync.app running, it will sync the contacts when the .mac sync occurs... Except now if my phone doesn't happen to be in range, I get an error dialog on the screen. Dumb.

I mean, really, even Active Sync for Windows XP isn't this retarded.

iSync - one click and all your gizmos synced. Boom.

Now...

3 different locations to do the same thing.. I don't think this is progress. Quite the oposite.

My iTunes 4.8 is hung. After the license agreement, it just sits there, and I can't force-quit it, either. Spotlight and menumeters are also hung.

for me, i dont see the point of iSync anymore

.Mac syncs automatically every day and now iTunes syncs my contacts, caledars, photos, and music at once.

Makes a lot more sense--please stop caring.

The ability to sync calendars and contacts is a Tiger only feature. iSync still lives in Panther.

there is a guy at macrumors that swears with 3 sources that steve will show a new airport express - with an s video out at WWDC.

If true. i would say this is why 4.8 has video stuff in it?

For those who have problems getting iTunes 4.8 through software update:

Did you do an archive and install of Tiger? Your receipt for iTunes would have been deleted.

Anybody notice how iTunes starts opening up on its own when you visit certain web-sites? Go check out http://www.newgrounds.com

Anytime I visit that site, iTunes 4.8 loads up and goes to the Music Store. Real pain in the butt. Haven't had it happen with any other web-site yet...yet.

Hmmm, interesting. The site may have put some kind of script that launches the Music Store and then gives them some credit if you were to buy a song or something along those lines.

Where could I check a screenshot?, I just get:

"Your request could not be completed.

The item you've requested is not currently available in the Spanish store."

Oh well, my iTunes is still 4.7.1 and 4.8 is not available in Software Update

The new Dave Matthews Band album comes with a video. The Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc" EP has 4 (FOUR!) videos that come with it - 99 cents for the song *and* 4 videos!

I like this new idea...

Can anyone tell me if 4.8 has the same restrictions on streaming that 4.7 had? I want to upgrade here at work but we have lots of people sharing their iTunes collections. Only allowing 5 connections per day doesn't work for us real well.

Yes, the music videos as added content rocks!

They could never sell them solo tho.. imo.

No wonder why they're going out of their way to prevent downloading of the music videos in their gallery.

The videos being sold aren't even that great to begin with.

Can someone else tell me what happens when they view 2 or more music videos in large format (preferably someone with 512Mb of Ram or less)?

Here, my hard drive is thrashing a lot - the videos aren't downloaded to /tmp anymore, so as to prevent 'stealing' I suppose

So true. I like to make a playlist for new CDs I import, but it becomes unmanageable very quickly.

Why woud you want to make playlists for CDs when iTunes has an album browser already?
