Looks like I'm 0-2. If I keep this up, maybe I can go to the Super Bowl.

Kind of a downer ending for a trilogy.

I hope we still get Scarecrow, with a bigger role than in the Dark Knight.

Hathaway is a great choice for Catwoman.

Maybe not, I think they're setting up for four films and not telling anyone.

Edit: and yeah, I completely pulled that guess out of my ass. Pretty cool, though.

Is the thing about Hudson Leick as HQ official, made up, or officially made up by olepigeon?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I dunno. I couldn't find any info about that, just the other two.

First of all, The Dark Knight Rises is a a terrible name for a film. But what do I know.

Secondly, Nolan has said he wants to end the franchise after a 3rd film. Killing/maiming Batman seems an easy way out.

Batman Begins > Dark Knight > Dark Knight Rises. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I'm not crazy about the name, but I'll show up for any Nolan Batman flick.

I wish it would go 5. Best superhero franchise of all-time.

It's made up by me. I was just stating what I'd like to see for a sequel.

Seems like the amount of time that Bale could still pull Batman/Wayne off age-wise.

Also, I'd just hate to see it end, even if it has dominated Nolan's time for the better part of a decade now. They're probably tiring of it.

It's be far more interesting if they ended it here and then reunited for Dark Knight Returns in 20.

Dark Knight Rises sounds like a parody porn.

While Dark Knight Rises will be the last Nolan Batman, the studio will continue to make Batman films. No studio just leaves money on the table like that.

I'm pretty sure Bale said he's out if Nolan doesn't direct, though.

That's fine. Bale's not essential. No one is essential, really. While Oldman and Caine really brought gravitas to the films, an entirely new cast would be just fine for the post-Nolan era.

Heh, I'm under the impression these is some consensus that these are some of the best superhero movies to date, so the implication that whoever follows up on this should do "just fine" is amusing as hell. Yeah, Nolan directed the best Batmans by circumstance.

(I'd also like to aim my sights for something better than "just fine")

I suppose the next Spiderman movie (and the already horrific looking X-Men first class), should give us an idea how easy that job would be.

Rebooting every other year with new actors is annoying. Batman isn't bond. The look and feel changes with the director and the cast.

Yes, definitely would love for a pentalogy. I think there will be a surprise after the 3rd one.

Lots of good fantasy series come in fives. Too often trilogies feel rushed. Good things have a propensity to show up in fives.

Trilogies came in to fashion because The Lord of the Rings was printed in three volumes, even though JRR Tolkien himself always insisted that it was six books and a few appendices. I'd love to hear your recommendations for pentalogies, though - the ones that mostly come to mind are ones that people tend to get embarrassed to ever have liked.

I don't see why it needs villains, I can just be about Batmans day to day life interspersed with thrilling music and sweeping night shots of gotham. Perhaps they can have a scene where alfred is cleaning up the bat cave and finds boogers underneath Bruce Wayne's desk and confronts him about his hygiene, batman breaks down and cries about his parents dying and how he was never taught how to clean properly, Alfred is sad because he realizes that his repressed homosexuality has stopped him from feeling comfortable expressing fatherly emotions towards Batman.

That kind of thing.

Bale isn't great in the Bruce Wayne character (I've always thought Keaton, while kind of small, actually had the persona down pretty well), and the Batvoice is over the top, but I hate actor changes, and I've already bought into Bale being Batman/Wayne.

Also: villains that I wish would have made an appearance in the next movie other than Bane:

Mr. Zsasz
The Riddler
Black Mask

There's no need for a reboot. Just continue telling new stories with different villains. Reboots are the result of Hollywood's stupid fascination with origin stories. Sony is making a new Spiderman flick with a new origin story; what the eff for?

Done right (less campy), it could be a pretty interesting character in Nolan's Gotham. That's the point: the last two Batman movies have taken some unrealistic characters and offered a realistic(ish) take on them.

Case in point:

I think the problem with that is when all the actors are different, and the feel is different )Thanks to a new director) it seems really weird to pretend this is just a continuation of the previous movies. If you're going to up-end everything, you might as well start from the beginning.

Of course, this does look utterly stupid coming less than a decade from the previous movies, but replacing all the actors and pretending nothing happened looks equally stupid to me.

Joseph Gordon Levitt has been cast in The Dark Knight Rises. I think this photo shows us exactly who he'll be:

Since Bane and Catwoman will be the main villains, Joker will probably just be a cameo role.

Supposedly, the Joker isn't in the movie, and Levitt is Hugo Strange.
