I just got a new Sony LCD TV for the living room and wonder if it'd be better to run a 50' network cable from my router to the Bravia box or if an Airport Express box would be acceptable.
Wireless seems to be okay to do video on my MBP but I am curious what you all think about using wireless-v-wired for video streaming to a home entertainment system and a TV versus a laptop.
Thx!

Well, what exactly are you streaming? If it's HD, maybe wired would be better. Are you saying this TV can act as a wireless device or is there some other device in the middle?

Hi Steve - not streaming HD, just SD videos/shows/movies from iTMS or Amazon. The TV has a "Bravia Link" that connects to the home Internet to stream video directly from a source (computer or 3rd party service) directly to the TV. I can rent/buy movies from Amazon directly from my TV via the Sony Internet link.....I'm just wondering if a wireless connection would be better or worse than a wired one for SD video to the TV.

Wired (preferably gigabit) or 5GHz 802.11N wireless would be my choices, in that order. Unless you're the only one using your network, you want the very fastest media available to reduce the drag the rest of your network will experience when you use a big chunk of bandwidth for streaming video.

Yes, that's pretty much what I was figuring. I don't plan to do it all the time (more like experimentation since I got a $200 online rental credit from Sony when I got the TV) so I'll just roll the cable up when I'm done.
Thx!

HD Powerline Ethernet adapters would be a choice, too.
I use the Panasonic HD ethernet adapter for my ATV.
Found it more reliable than wireless, especially with the ATV.
