my GF has a 1.33g 14" G4 ibook.
she wants to get a 19" external monitor (but not spend too much).
she needs the vga adapter yes? (if she had it, it's disappeared).
any recommendations for a monitor?

the use of a large resolution external monitor will likely slow things down since it only has 32mb vram. she'll also need to use screen spanning doctor unless she wants to use it to mirror the 1024x768 display of the iBook.

No Viewsonic (they used to be good... but suck now), Samsung is good, Dell is good when there's a good deal. Sony is nice, but you're paying for the name. I would say your best bets are Dell and Samsung.

BTW, techbargains.com has good listings of tech deals... there is a dell LCD posting from Oct 12 if you scroll further down.

Peripherals might be a better forum for this.

There are fairly good Acer and Viewsonic 19" widescreen LCDs which are really cheap. They run a 1440x900 resolution so the iBook doesn't really struggle. Just install the screen spanning hack and away you go!

Just make sure you get one that has a VGA connection and not just DVI - which the iBook doesn't support (I think) and all that money would be wasted..
