Thanks for your appreciation, and for sharing your ideas ericg.

Evidently, I was aware of this issue and already gave it a lot of thought myself :
- darkening the tracks sorta destroyed the aesthetic aspect,
- cap stripes were added as a visual aid,
- my beta testers didn't seem to have too much trouble with it…
- as a Mighty Mouse user myself, I'm reaching for the scrollbars/arrows less and less

All these things added up to my release version.

I'm presently working on a minor update (metal buttons, Calculator skin, Finder view glyphs), so I'd be happy to hear any more ideas I can take into consideration. TIA

Dear Gerrit,
It is a real joy to use your themes. Thanks a lot.
Aluminium made me abandon (for a while) a Void theme.
if you are talking about suggestions... I think that selected menu items are too dark and they dont look like metallic, they are a little bit alien for the whole theme feel. I would like to see something like what you have in the word "Aluminium" in the banner of the theme. It's beautiful and its feels flat. All that is very subjective - may be because I am a big fun of the Void theme where the selected menu is just underlined.

thanks

As everyone else, I obviously love this theme. Just one little bug (?) that I haven’t seen before applying Aluminium:

Sometimes (I haven’t been able to reproduce it properly), the icons on the desktop go from Normal to Bold text, but only after being highlighted and then un-highlighted (i.e., clicked on and then clicking somewhere else). I’m not even sure if it’s an Aluminium bug or a Silk bug or something completely different, but as I said, I’d never seen it before applying Aluminium.

Also, I would tend to agree with arcadi9876 that the highlighted menu points are a tad dark and stand out from the rest of the theme—this is especially noticeable in Mail, which gets an almost ‘80s Windows’-ish look.

Otherwise, I’m loving it.

As part of the minimalistic approach, but also to try and make the theme as clear as possible, every selected/clicked item throughout Aluminium is showing in that same gradient : dropdown menu, Mail's column selector, Finder sidebar, Safari Library, but also all the clicked buttons etc. I'm not sure (yet) about breaking up that uniformity…

The release banner sure is an option (thanks for pointing it out), but I've done an approach almost like that in albookAGV and wanted to try something new, I guess ;-)

I'm not sure what Oisin means with the Mail selection. If that would be the list highlight - I agree, it's dark. I chose to make it the same color as the System's own "Silver" highlight.

@Oisin : it would seem unlikely to me that any SS guikit would do anything to your system font. I'm puzzled, but clueless as to where in TP I should go fix it. I can't reproduce it either…

Dear Gerrit,
It seems to me that the gradient in the title bar of the window is much softer than that of the selected menu. Also, it have a realistic, visible (and very cute) ending of aluminium sheet. I think that the gradient work there only because of this realistic ending- the aluminium sheet is realistically bent toward observer, we even see its finite width. Another thing that makes this theme beautiful is the shadowy feeling of the x-+ in the title bar and lines on some icons (for example the "All bookmarks" button in the Safari).

I think that the selected menus could be done with some side mark (like in Ayofe) or a horizontal line (with shadow, please :-) and making a font to cast a shadow. (At least that's what I would like to see :-) -- After all its a minimalistic theme.

Let me be a bit more specific:

It’s the darker highlight, combined with the account and trash bin icons and the fact that the ‘frame’ containing the list of mails (unlike the ‘frame’ with the contents of each mail) has a grey background, rather than a white one; these three things come together to give Mail a look that doesn’t look much like the rest of the theme, IMO. To be honest, I think it’s really the account and trash bin icons, more than anything else, that does it. Perhaps this is because I use the VOID icons, rather than the default Aluminium icons, system-wide, but these account and trash bin icons look sort of 80s-ish to me...

I haven’t seen this since I last logged out and back in, last night; perhaps it was just a temporary fluke somewhere else in the system that caused it.

Nice, but I don't like the Safari buttons. They look ugly and are not good to read.

Thanks

Gerrit's gone for at least a little while. The themes will be back on his mac page eventually but until then you'll just have to find someone to send it to you.
