Does anyone know if the new soundblaster sound card for Macintosh works with OS X.1? I have contemplating getting it, but if it doesn't work with X forget it.

This really ticks me off, too. They better support OS X, since 50% of the time I spend with my Mac is recording songs. I currently use the SBLive! in OS 9 with Logic Audio. I know Logic Audio is coming to OS X eventually, but if I can't record with my soundcard then what's the friggin point?

I'll probably have to get rid of the SBLive! and get the first soundcard that works with OS X....aaargh.

I hate everyone equally.

I'm not sure that drivers for OS X aren't being worked on. Over at

Accelerate Your Mac I've occasionally seen some posative news. I'd drop by there and search the site and the forums.

Heh.. Is there one yet? Pretty sad, if not. Not 1 single, supported, worthwhile, 3rd party sound option? BeOS has way better driver support. Imagine that..

I've heard that Apple hasn't provided them with the necessary info to make drivers for OS X. Maybe this was just with 10.0.4, and with 10.1 all of this has changed...

I remember seeing something on xlr8yourmac about getting people to complain to Apple about this..

I hope creative doesn't ditch Mac support because they aren't selling enough soundblasters. There must be a TON of users, including me, that are waiting for OS X support to purchase theirs.

Speculation: perhaps Creative is being quiet on the OS X issues because they're busy readying a new version of the Soundblaster Live! card for Macintosh.

The current Soundblaster Live for Mac card is constructed differently than the PC versions because the classic Mac OS Sound Manager was incapable of generating true 5.1 surround sound, instead a 4 channel system was implemented by essentially playing two stereo sounds at once, one in the front and the other at the real. This limitation has been removed in Mac OS X through the use of the new Core Audio System, which means there's a very good chance Mac users will soon be on hardware parity with our PC counterparts.

Here's hoping for updated stuff in the near future...

I remeber when the Soundblaster for Mac was released and they (I think it was Maccentral) asked the productmanager why not all functions where implemented and he said it would be fully supported in X.

For the time being the only cards with X support is M-Audios (Midiman) range of audiocards. http://www.harmony-central.com/News/...1-Drivers.html
With a latency of 1 ms (Mac OS X has around 2 ms) they are fast too.
