I just finished watching the first season on DVD. It's one of the best show on TV in years. It's hilarious, it's clever, the writing is amazing and the cast is perfect. Every character is great. Anybody watches it?

Pretty good. I mean after the Simpsons I'll usually stick around to watch it. If anything else were on I'd be gone in a second.

Arrested Development is great because it has great continuity jokes, the characters are well developed, and watching it over and over does not lose any appeal....

Dang right it does, and last night's episode was a classic, too. My favorite lines:

Gob, on seeing his nephew's (very plain-looking) new girlfriend:
"That's his girlfriend? What, is she funny or something?"

Tobias, applying makeup to be an understudy for the blue man group:
"I figured if I blue myself early, I'd still be able to make a 9:00 dinner reservation."

Another Tobias:
"And secondably, I know you're the big marriage expert. Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot, your wife is dead."

I'm thinking of giving Season 1 to everyone I know for the holidays, just to spread the word about the show and force my friends to try it out. The early episodes are some of the funniest shows I've ever seen and never get old after repeated viewings, although some of the shows in the middle of the season got a little bit too silly. Things look pretty promising for this season, and I hope it gets picked up for a third.

If you haven't already, check out the actor commentaries on the season finale and the Marta episode. They're pretty good.

Got the DVDs a few weeks ago and have watched every episode at least 2-3 times. Hilarious show.
I loved the scenes where Gob is buying new animals for his shows and later has to get rid of them. "Do you need a cage? No - Im a magician".

Arrested is a terrific show, but it's not exactly light situational humor. You need to have a general understanding of preceding episodes to understand the running jokes. After watching the DVDs (rented, but will purchase soon), I noticed a lot continuity I missed the first time around. Arrested is not a show you can watch while your attention is diverted, because you'll miss the subtle humor. Now The Simpsons, that WAS a great show. It should have ended by, at the latest, season 11. The last five season have been so abysmal, I've renamed the show the Stimspons. It's a mere shell, a pathetic parody, of its former self.

King of the Hill, Malcolm in the Middle, Arrested Development - these shows should be the centerpieces of Fox's Sunday lineup.

The "Daddy horny" scene is hilarious; as is "White Power Bill".
Just thinking of it brings tears to my eyes.

Not only the main characters are great but even the secondary characters have great lines.

Kitty and her misalign boob job:
"Say goodbye to these"

Barry the familly lawyer
Barry stops by a prostitute
Barry: "Are you one of these freak that put make up and dresses like a women?"
Prostitute: "No baby, I'm the real thing"
Barry drives by like hell

I think my favorite part of the show is the scenes for the next "upcoming episode" (each of which have nothing to do with the next episode and are actually part of the "current episode")...

The subtlety is a big thing. For some reason when I watch it on the comptuer I get a lot more of the subtleness than I do when I watch it on TV.

And yes, it is a opossum show (I'm taking leet speak to a new level. Pwned is to Owned as Opossum is to Pwesome is to Awesome).
Genius. You know who.

I like the show too, and thought for sure that meant Fox would be cancelling it immediately. Somehow they seem to have realized this one is good. Must have slipped past their filter.

I like how Michael is flawed--I loved the bit where he is trying to keep his integrity, yet ends up pulling an office chair home behind his bike... you think YAY, you deserve it, and then he's pulling a TV... shows he's got the family larceny gene.

I started watching it because of David Cross but was suprised at how well the cast was put together. Does anyone else think that Michael's brother was supposed to be played by Bob Odenkirk?

Two steps forward (six steps back)

You mean Gob? I think Will's got it down pat, Bob can be a jerk but I don't think he's got the right combination of guile and stupidity.

Notice that the tall cop is Jay Johnston, also from Mr. Show? I also love Amy Pohler's appearance in season 1 as Gob's wife, since they're married in real life.

I've been hooked from the start. My favorite scene this week was when Ice, the bounty hunter, tackled Tobias because Tobias, wearing blue makeup, looked like the portrait of George that had been printed on the blue print printer.

It's stuff like that that is so stupid yet so clever at the same time.

I agree, one of the best comedies on television in years. No, it's not light comedy, but then there's plenty of that on TV already.

It's so interesting to have to pay such close attention to a show to catch everything (and to catch more things on subsequent viewings). It seems like one of the most well thought-out shows I've ever seen.

Outstandingly done, can't wait to see it every week.
