That part was soo great! It's the only Zelda I've ever played, and I was using a cheat sheet the whole way. It STILL takes for bloody ever to finish!

The only console I've ever owned is my current one, a Nintendo 64. Heck, I still haven't played all the good games for this one yet, and still don't own a copy of GoldenEye. (though I did rent and beat it a while back) Not having a roommate sure kills the excitement of "death match til dawn."

From what I've played:
N64:
Mario Kart 64 (for sheer re-playability)
GoldenEye
Super Mario 64 (also played through twice)

Macintosh
Marathon series
Dark Forces
Deus Ex

I don't play a lot of games. It's probably a good thing

Too broad of a topic with too many genres to be conclusive, but some really cool games are:

Zelda: Majora's Mask
Metroid Prime
GoldenEye

Worse, the batteries in many of my old carts not only went bad, but they corroded half of the circuit board as well.

At least there's emulation.

Obviously your defintion of a video game does not match the dictionary, or of 99% of the people posting in this thread.

If there's no version of it that you put quarters in, it's not a video game. Yup. There are other things, like console games and computer games, but the video game requires a coin or coin substitute.

Halo is a computer game which hasn't come out yet.

I had a space exploration game I can't remember the name of.
You had to choose your crew, train them and go off and mine and sell fuel and artifacts while upgrading your ship. I wish I could find it again.
One of the artifacts was the humming gizzy.
Ewwww, don't touch it. Here,
poke at it with this stick.

That was called Starflight for the PC by Electronic Arts, 1985.

Not really. Those were only supposed to last about five years. It's true that many have lasted for far longer than that, but Zelda's well over ten years old at this point; in fact, it was the first cartridge to use battery-backed RAM. It would make sense that the original cartridges, at least, would be the first to go. Maybe not the re-releases, but certainly the originals.

I have both of the originals -- one and two, and they're still kicking. How 'bout that? I would have thought for sur ethey'd be toast. Haven't tried them in a few months, but they were kickin' then.

Speaking of Zelda, anyone play Four Swords yet? I have it, but I havent' had the chance to play with my friend yet. They crammed Link to the Past nicely into that smaller screen, too. Only slight edges cut off.

don't bother...

explaining or rationalizing these things to people who are stuck in their ways is fruitless.

he believes what he believes despite the common sense behind it. to the rest of the entire world, video games are whatever we see that even remotely resembles a "video game". we're not anal about these things because we have lives and don't give a damn.

#1: Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This game was even fun to watch. The gameplay was amazing. Can't wait till Zelda for gamecube.

#2: Starcraft. Played this for years. Warcraft III will probably make it to my top list too soon.

#3: Warcraft II with the expansion set. Again, I played this for years. Blizzard just makes hits over and over.

Yep. I just beat it tonight with Kristin. I'm amazed. Everything about this game was just incredible. EVERYTHING. Animation. Characters. Level design. Music. Story. Puzzles. Gameplay. Controls. Hell, even the ****ing 'intro scenes'- they actually change what they show you depending on how far you are into the game.... this game was just unbelievable, well worth having a PS2 for, alone. As in, I would have paid $250 for this game experience.

Civilization III has been on top of my list for the last few years. (Sorry Mac-only users, the OSX port of this is lacking compared to C3: Conquests), every game is different enough to make repeated play worthwhile.

Final Fantasy Tactics manages to cling to the number two spot, despite being an old PS1 game with mediocre graphics and a forgetable storyline. The gameplay is just that good.

GTA: Vice City comes in third. I picked it back up again a few weeks ago and started playing for an hour or two here and there since. It gets the nod this time around for open-ended gameplay. It's fun just to drive around, start trouble, then lead the cops all over two islands in a wild chase.

...reasons, people, give reasons....otherwise I won't know if your favorites are worth my time or not.

1: Dandy (Atari 400) Dandy is the greatest game of all time! Anyone remember it?
2: M.U.L.E. (Atari 800)
2: Sundog (Atari ST)

Put Seven Cities of Gold and Archon (both Atari ST) and Montezuma's Revenge (Atari 800, or was it ST?) Panzer Dragoon Saga (Sega CD), Dungeon Master (Atari ST) and Morrowind in the top 10.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
