Yes. Eddie Vedder's a big fan. You should check out the CD and DVD 7 Worlds Collide. Eddie does 4 Enz songs ("History Never Repeats," "I See Red," "Take a Walk," and "Stuff and Nonsense") and "Parting Ways." The all-star band was put together by Neil Finn (of Crowded House and Split Enz) and featured Vedder, Johnny Marr (of the Smiths), Sebastian Steinberg (of Soul Coughing), Ed O'Brien, Phil Selway (both of Radiohead), and Tim Finn (of Split Enz and briefly Crowded House).

U2
Bon Jovi
Beastie Boys
Def Leppard, maybe
Honestly, there are very few bands from that era I listen to more than 1 or 2 songs to, let alone know even more.

This would be my worst list with the obvious exception of The Pixies, I would replace them Kachagoogoo.

I've never been a big Guns fan, but I have to agree they belong on the list. For a while there, they were the biggest band in the world.
U2 would go on the list too - until Achtung Baby.
It's kinda cheesy but I like Duran Duran.
Definitely agree with whoever said the Clash! London Calling is awesome!
I like Crowded House, too, but not sure if they'd make my best list.
Tears for Fears simply because Songs from the Big Chair is so good.
And hell, any rap album from 1988. So many great ones:
It Takes a Nation of Millions by PE
By Any Means Necessary by BDP
Strictly Business by EPMD
Follow the Leader by Eric B and Rakim (who, by the way, is the best MC to ever grab a mic)
I'm sure I'm missing some, but there were good albums by LL and Kool Moe D that year, too.

LL and Moe Dee's albums didn't drop until '89. The main one you missed was The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. That's another good thing about the '80s: hip-hop didn't suck back then.

Heeeeeeere we go
Once upon a time not long ago
When people wore pajamas and lived life slow
....
God I love that song. Slick Rick - knew I missed something.
So, I guess BAD and How Ya Like Me Now were 1989? Close enough. Took 'em another year to make sure they dissed each other a whole lot.
LL vs. Moe D was the best rivalry in rap!
Also left out of my original list:
Long Live the Kane - Big Daddy Kane
Tougher than Leather - Run DMC
I think that was the year that Ice-T released Power, NWA dropped Straight Outta Compton and Yo! first aired.
Less important stuff like Fresh Prince, Hammer, Kid 'n' Play, etc. too.
Couple years later, there was too much gangsta. Even with A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul throwing flowers at everybody.

I love it, too. It's a classic.

No, the classics ( Bigger and Deffer and How Ya Like Me Now) were from '87. The followups ( Walking with a Panther and Knowledge Is King) were from '89.
LL vs. Moe D was the best rivalry in rap!
Indeed.

Yeah, Walking with a Panther and Knowledge is King weren't as good as the '87 albums.

Joy Divison (possibly one of the best bands ever, not just the 80's)
The Pixies (also one of the best bands ever)
R.E.M. (who were amazing back then, but now are horrible)
The Smiths

I can't believe I'm the first one to put Metallica at the top! Following them would be Motley Crue. Pretty much all the metal bands of the 80s had pretty decent music IMO.

Guns 'N' Roses (by far my favorite from that era)
Metallica (I had a Metallica shirt for every day of the week)
Grateful Dead (they had some great shows in the 80's)
Skid Row (I still enjoy them)
Tesla (Love Song, need I say more?)
Run DMC (my neighbor ordered King of Rock and Raising Hell from Columbia House and I was hooked)

I remember you, I still like that song, only Skid Row song I ever cared for. Sebastian Bach is pretty funny as a host sometimes.

I would ask you if you were joking, but then you'd scream at me to get the hell out of the lounge, and I'd be tempted to take you up on it.

Um, no. That was the 70s.
80s belonged to hair bands, skinny ties, weepy-sad goth pre-emo eyeliner wearing sensitive boys and the emergence of hip-hop on suburbia.
