Apple CEO Tim Cook has written to an Apple fan after learning about how an iPad purchase for his ill grandfather had helped during his treatment. User "bhanel" on Reddit included screenshots of his email to Cook, as well as Cook's subsequent response. Cook, like his predecessor, the late Steve Jobs, routinely reads correspondence from Apple customers as part of his daily routine. Like Jobs, Cook occasionally takes the time out to respond directly.
"Thank you for your note and support," said Cook in a screenshot revealing
his story on Reddit, "I'm happy we are a part of your Grandfather's life. Tim."
In his correspondence with Cook, 'bhanel' had recounted how his grandfather had been diagnosed with bladder cancer and had been advised to have part of his bladder removed in order to have the best chance of beating the disease. Following the surgery, his grandfather was feeling low, so bhanel purchased an iPad for the recovering man. Not only did this lift his grandfather's spirits, but the senior citizen went on to buy an iPhone as well. According to the Reddit poster, after getting familiar with the iPad, using the iPhone was a snap as the user experience was consistent across devices.
"[Cook's] reply was brief, but I'm impressed that he took the time to read my letter and respond at all," said the author of the original correspondence on the thread. "I think it's great that he takes time to read and respond to emails regular folks send him. I just thought I would share my story with you guys."
