Is there any third-party messaging client that supports the ICQ privacy settings (e.g. only allow status request from people in contact list, require authorization etc.)?

Edit: is there any ICQ client for OS X that can be set so that the messages go through the ICQ server (not p2p)?

Please do not suggest alternative messaging protocols, I've been using ICQ and Jabber for quite some time and I don't want to change this.

I think Fire supports that:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/fire

Don't know about Adium, you'll have to check.

Don't use ICQ but iChat in Tiger supports Jabber.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

These are the first two that I checked.
It says that Fire supports this for some protocols, but it doesn't seem to work for ICQ.
Doesn't work for Adium either

The privacy settings seems to work fine for most Jabber implementations (I guess, that's because Jabber is an open protocol). The problem is ICQ, so far I haven't seen ICQ client for OS X that supports some or most of them (there are some third party Windows clients that do), maybe I have to try the official ICQ client.

AIM - ICQ interpolate.

You can add ICQ users in iChat without Jabber and talk with them like they are AIM users.

However, I just use Adium to get on ICQ.

1) iChat: doesn't allow others to see my status (online/offline...), but accepts messages from anyone regardless of the settings (this happens even if I set "Block everyone" in preferences -> accounts -> security)
2) the official ICQ client: allows others to see my status, but doesn't accept messages from people not in my contact list
3) Fire: allows others to see my status, but doesn't accept messages from people not in my contact list
4) Adium: allows others to see my status and accepts messages from people not in my contact list (unless I've missed some settings)

... and I didn't even try the option to allways send messages through the ICQ server.

This is so frustrating, because there are third-party ICQ clients for Windows with good privacy settings implementations. Any ideas about fixes or other ICQ clients are welcome.

One of my ICQ accounts gets spammed all the time, the other one -- almost never. In Windows if I set the client to ignore these messages (i.e. messages from people not in my contact list), I just don't see them. I saw such an option in Fire, but not in Adium, am I missing something?

Naw, no ignore in Adium yet. But it is coming.

Seriously, Adium is the best app if you want to "do it all" as far as getting on all networks.

It seems that in Adium there is an option to block known contact, but not to block all unknown contacts.

Another strange thing, when I am online with one of the ICQ accounts using Adium, I can not see myself from the other ICQ account (using one of the third party Windows clients), no problem when using Fire (both accounts are added to the known contact lists in all clients). Go figure...

Why aren't you people using iChat for ICQ? You can just turn on those settings globally in iChat

I was able to use my ICQ account with iChat, but some ICQ users don't see me. I was also getting messages from unknown contacts, despite the privacy settings.

They need to use the latest ICQ version to be able to see you.

And apart from that via iChat ICQ users get sent HTML text instead of plain text, which is not only annoying but almost unreadable.

It may be different when they have the latest ICQ version installed, but there are not many who use it.

I guess the latest version requirement is because of the AIM/ICQ interoperability. I think that most third-party clients don't use it and none of my friends uses the official ICQ client.

The bigger problem is that people that are not in my list can see me and send me messages.

Is there a client for the mac that will let you be added to multi-user chats?
