Any recommendations for a new mac user on what newsreader I should go with? I just signed up for usenetserver and need a reader for the MBP.
Thanks in advance!

I find it to be great. Been using it for about 2 years now and it's solid.

I use Hellanzb mostly because it is free and runs on Linux, where I do my Usenet downloading, FWIW...
It's a little annoying that good clients and utilities on the Mac always seem to end up costing money...

I don't think Unsion cost that much based on what you can do when using it.
Windows programs are way more costly. Time time is worth too much to use Linux.

The time needed to pirate stuff is valuable? Heh... okay. Although actually, you'll find that there are a lot of (free) applications available under Linux that make pirating movies and software much easier than the selection of free stuff available on the Mac, and I don't know about you, but I grow sick of having to shell out money for a little utility I may run once every few months.
At any rate, Hellanzb is also available for OS X. It can be installed via the Macports repository.

I'm on Comcast in New Mexico, and my understanding is that comcast is who provides the end user with a usenet account. is that right? is there a bandwidth limit or something for comcast customers?

Some ISPs provide Usenet access, and many that do rely on Giganews as their provider AFAIk. However, you can buy your own Giganews account, and last I checked they were relatively cheap.
Usenet is really the only safe way to download stuff without much fear of repercussions from the MPAA/RIAA.
