Upgraded my iMac HD from 10.4.11 to 1.5.2, lost the use of PS7.

I was really disappointed to find PS7 didn't work with 10.5

After some help from these forums, I worked out a method that works, for me anyway.

It was a bit of a get around, but it works for me.

I have a few external HD's, partitioned for various backup reasons, in addition to my Time Machine 500gb.

What I did, was install 10.4 from the original installation DVD's onto one of these external HD partitions, and re-installed PS7 there too for ease of use.

Took a couple of hours, but worth it.

It works a dream, all I have to do now is select 10.4.11 (updated) under Startup disc when I want to use PS7, which is usually only after a holiday or other mass photo trip !

I'm now just CCC'ing the 10.4.11 external as a backup, then I'm going to try the alt (option) key reboot choice, to see if that works.

Yes it does, that works a treat.

I read it as 10.4.11 was NOT installed ON my iMac, 10.5.2 WAS installed ON my iMac, but 10.4.11 was running IN my iMac, anyway, you get the idea !

I'm sure I could install different OS versions (10.4.11 / 10.5.2) on different partition on the iMac HD, but I'm not about to lose my data doing so.

I did read somewhere about "on the fly" partitioning without losing data, to add, or amend partition size, but can't find it now.

Why not jsut get Photoshop Elements 6 for the Mac and stop using Photoshop 7 all together.Doesn't sound like you are using a lot of Photoshop's functions to need Photoshop on a full time basis.

I fixed your title to reflect the specifics of your method.

PS7 v PE6 no contest really.

I know PS7 very well, I do use it extensively when needed, and I am very quick at producing excellent results, and as it's already paid for, I shall continue to use it.

Having said that, with my newer, more advanced digital cameras I find little need for daily use, mainly just after holiday trips and days out.

(I also like the batch renumbering, silly, but true)
