So i was up to the baker college dorms visiting a friend today and setting her up with a lime green iMac to replace her old PII 300.. And her roomies bf came in and said why would you want that peice of trash.. And hes like macs cant run windows.. I explained to him that they can boot windows natively and of course He was like if it can run windows its not a mac.. And continued on to say that the Mac interface is clunky and that the microsoft office isnt avalible for mac along with adobe CS2 and said that you cant do regular day to day tasks on it.. How come some diehard PC users are just a**holes?? Ive switched about 5 people up at baker college to mac and they love it.. but then youve got this 19 year old punk who comes in knowing everything..
How are we supposed to deal with stupid PC users like him

So why give a crap about some 19 year old punk?

Just smile and agree with everything he says. Let him be confused and look down his nose at you. Who cares? Even if you prove EVERY SINGLE POINT of his he still won't admit he's wrong and he still won't give a crap about the Mac.

MicroSoft. Catering to the lowest common denominator since 1975.

You can't boot Windows natively on a lime green iMac.

Personally I find it hilarious that you have the hots for my gramma. Especially seeins how she is 3x your age, and makes your Brittney-Spears-wannabe 30-something wife look like a rag doll who went thru WWIII with a burning stick of dynamite up her a** :)

When you argue with idiot, you make it hard for others to tell who the idiot is.

(what movie is that from?)

All you can do is lay down the facts, laugh at him if he persists and inform him that GEICO could use a stud like him for their next caveman commercial.

Wow. I kinda hope he keeps talking trash so that you will have no other choice but to judo chop him. Then you can come back here and tell us all about it.

Know what? Lie to us and tell us it happened.

I miss my iMac DV (lime green, of course). I bought it in 1999 (when I first started coming to this forums). It was my first computer purchase ever. If it didn't get toasted by a crappy electrical wiring system + no surge protector, I would probably be still using it today.

The most devestating thing you can do to a young college 'boy' is laugh at him, and NEVER call him anything but a child, etc.

You've answered your own question. The only way to deal with zealots is to actually show them.

Trying to argue with zealots is worthless because arguing is too abstract for their little minds; they have to see it.

I've found three demos really hit hard:

Spotlight (and a Spotlight-based app like SpotInside);
column view (using Finder, Phoenix Slides, and Nisus Thesaurus); and
drag'n'drop, with the Dock, and with Expose.

I also love to use the contextual Dictionary pop-up, which I keep bound to F8.

I assume she means "sickly pale" rather than "European." That was the image it conjured for me, anyway.

Don't worry about people like that they are everywhere, not just in the Windows vs. Mac arena

With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

No matter how 'popular' Macs become and even if the 'myths' about Macs all but dried up there would still be PC users who still have to degrade the Mac to make themselves feel better about their PC.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is just ignore him, let him live in his little PC world he's loving.

I hope your friend enjoys her Mac. Very nice thing you did.

I like the "ignore the 19 year old punk" comment. He's a moron and not worth the breath to even tell to shut up. I don't get along with ANYONE who is a closed minded jerk, whether it's about PCs or Macs or anything else. Of course there's also the point that closed minded jerk 19 year olds are typically NOT careful about their PC's antivirus software and you know where that goes...
