I click on spotlight in the top right hand corner and get nothing. The rest of the finder works, but spotlight doesn't, anyone know why??

Thanks!

Between the time that it was working and not working, did you make any changes to the system or install anything?

Pressing command spacebar highlights it but a drop down box doesn't appear, so I can search. All it does is put a blue box around the spotlight icon.

Does it do this in all accounts, or just your main one?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Please try making another account, and see if the same thing happens under that account.

I had reset my computer once already and it didn't make a difference, but I just reset again before creating a new account and now it works. I don't know why, but it does! Thanks for all your help!

I've had that happen too before.

You can just open a shell and kill the SystemUIServer process. It will then restart automatically. In my case that did the trick.
