Ok so the rage around here is to swap a hard drive from a portable case into a macbook, which is what I want to do. Will this one work? I've googled and can't find if it's sata or ide.

Newegg.com - Western Digital Passport Portable WDXMS3200TN 320GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive - Retail

IF anyone could help me out it'd be much appreciated.
Backups are like guns and condoms. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I don't see the appeal. You can get the bare drive for $10 less, an enclosure that's designed to be taken apart and reassembled for $10-20, and keep the warranty valid on both.

Mduell.. thank you very much for pointing that out. I had followed a savings thread from somewhere and now I lost it but I could have gotten that drive for like $125, so thats why I was asking specifically about that drive. But I'll take a look at your links. Thanks again.

Can anyone tell me what code I should be looking for in the model number that tells if it's a 5400 rpm drive or a 7200?

Bishop

All 320GB drives are currently 5400RPM (or less). The largest 7200RPM drives are 200GB.

And if you want a 200GB 7200 RPM Hitachi, here's the best deal that I know of:

HITACHI Travelstar 7K200 HTS722020K9SA00 0A50940 Hard Drive Bulk at ZipZoomfly
