Can anyone please recommend a good mobile that is
Mac compatible - either from 'Mini SD' or
another connection option?

Thanx

SonyEricssons are good. I don't particularly fancy the design of the K750i or the W800, but they are nice with Salling Clicker

Oh.. and the best for a mac user would have to be that iTunes phone, no?!

Pretty much any and all cell phones with Bluetooth wireless are great Mac phones. I had a SE s710a and now a black razr and they both work like a charm.

My W800i has worked like a charm and replaced my ipod as my choice of mobile music playing device.

Sony-Ericsson phones are in my experience damn good with Macs as are Nokias. I have a SE K700i that works perfectly with my Mac. Very much recommended.

I have a Motorola v635 that has a micro SD card (up to 1GB now I believe) that I have a SD adapter for that works perfect on Mac OS X, also syncs via bluetooth perfectly. Don't know what else you are looking for. It is GSM quad-band and the best phone I have ever used.

I love my Treo 650 with the Missing Sync for Mac. (If you need all the features.)

I have a Sony Ericsson s700i which works great with iSync and I recently found you can control the mouse with it and iTunes via bluetooth.

I now have a Sony Ericsson K700i, no card slot on it but it has Bluetooth and IR, and about 40Mb of internal memory. Works great with Macs through iSync and Bluetooth. Remote control is great, with the built in remote and Salling Clicker, I've got the Remote Basics version at the moment, and I'm considering getting the full blown clicker. Another handy bit of software is BluePhoneElite (Shareware) or BluePhoneMenu (Free), it gives you caller ID and SMS texts on your Mac screen. I used to have a T610 and the K700i is very similar to use, but with a higher res screen and better graphics.

Motorola's Bluetooth won't work with Salling Clicker or any remote software, because the BT firmware on the phones aren't up to it. I also had a lot of little things that bugged me about my v620, not because there was anything wrong with it, but more of a 'why does it do that' or 'why can't it do this' annoyances. I wouldn't get another Moto phone, no matter how good they look.

My experience with recent Nokias is that they are fine so long as they work. My NGage QD died after 9 months, and friends have taken 6230's back to the store, one because it wouldn't charge, the second because the microphone broke and he could only use the phone with a headset.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I've got a Sony Ericsson K750i.

Works great with a whole host of mac software.

This week I have been mostly using....

BluePhone Elite - Great for the phone functions, address book integration, sending and receiving SMS direct on your screen.

and

Salling Clicker - Great for controlling the mouse, iTunes, EyeTV, Presentations, iPhoto etc.

Not to mention the fact that it works great with iSync.

File transfer is very quick using bluetooth 2 if your Mac supports it, or alternatively use the USB cable and the memory stick mounts like any external drive.

One more vote for the K700i, only just got it but I'm very happy. Moved up from a K300i, which I couldn't get to sync with usb cable.

Btw, it came with the latest firmware installed--just so people know and arent turned off by net reviews that may mention firmware updates.

Decent phone for the money.
Please keep in mind the ambiguously selective general understandings we've all agreed upon...

Thoughts on the W800i? I was thinking about getting the V3i but there seems to be problems with it. Also, the W800i takes some DAMN nice pics with the 2 megapixel camera.

Specifically:

1) Can it use MP3 ringtones?
2) I know it works with Salling and Bluephone Elite. Any glitches with them?
3) Transferring files from phone to phone seem to work. Any problems with doing this?
4) I assume from what I read that Mac file transfers work. Can I initiate a transfer from the phone? The RAZR seems to have some ridiculous design where it's only available for 60 seconds.
5) I assume that IF I decide to use it as a music player, it won't work with AAC files?

MacMan, my friend just got that phone about a week ago. It looks/feels great but the sofware seems buggy and slow. Menus lag behind very badly.

Give it a test drive at a Sprint store before purchasing, That's a bit of cash for the performance I saw. Great looking phone though.

Folks ... I too am looking for a replacement phone.

I'm considering the S-E w800i or the Nokia N70.

Any opinions when comparing these two?

Yes and mp3 or unprotected AAC file will work find as a ring tone

I haven't used either a great deal, but from the limited use of both programs it has worked fine.

Don't remember on this one will have to double check for you.

Mike
As stated earlier it works just wine with AAC files that don't have apple's DRM.

I have a k700i. Works greats, has a modern feel to it and doesn't cost too much now since it's more than a year old already.

General rule of thumb: SonyEricsson bluetooth phones are gonna work great with your Mac. Stay away from everything else. Nokia is alright

My Nokia 6600 is excellent. They don't sell it anymore, but there are variations on the 66** series.

I bought a SE W800i and it's BY FAR the best phone on the planet. You can say the W900i is because of the WiFi support, but I'm not a flipper fan, and the W900i doesn't have autofocus on their phone.

driven: there was a reason why I didn't get the N70. I forgot what it was. Something pushed the W800i over the top for me. If I remember I'll post it.

Mike ... thanks. I appreciate it. I'm glad someone else wrestled with this decision. The w800 is cheaper, but due to the cost involved I don't want to regret the purchase.

Oh, you're in the US. MAKE SURE you have decent 1900 MHz coverage or the W800i won't work AT ALL.

EDIT: Specifically, 900/1800/1900 coverage depending on your carrier.

Yeah ... I'm ok with that. (Atlanta). I also have other phones I can switch to if I need 850 coverage.

I travel international a lot which is why either of these phones is ideal. Since work pays for this SIM card I think I'm either going to totally kill off my personal Sprint service or at least reduce the minutes and use it for e-mail only. (Treo 650).

I researched some phones for under $200 all day and decided on the W600i ($150 from buy.com). This phone seems like it'll really kick some butt. My 3 top features was Bluetooth, EDGE and streaming video support. This was the only one that had all 3 features and had really good reviews over at http://phonescoop.com. I found the iSync plugin by searching google.

I almost bought the w600i.

No upgradable memory, you're stuck with SHARED 256 MB.
Decent MP3 player.
Swivel phone. I hate swivel phones.

For the price, I'd expect more.

Most likely my new cell phone:

Back to the basics (no cam, no vid), but a lot of voice (audio) oriented features, all in a nicely designed phone.

Specs etc.

If I change my way of living, and if I pave my streets with good times, will the mountain keep on giving…

When I first looked at this phone I thought the same thing. Honestly I'm still not sure how much I'll like it. I read up on all the others before I came back to the W600i. I figured with Cingular's 30 money back guarantee I'd give it a shot since it was the only feature that was holding me back.

Can't go wrong with Sony, if you dont mind something not new any more but more afforable, the Z600 which I have is a great phone. I am thinking about getting a moto Razor soon just because I wanted speakerphone capabilities.
