I've been trying to get XP up and running on my recently-purchased MPB but seem to have run across an odd thing. After fully going through software update I ran BootCamp, which refused to initialize after telling me I don't have the latest firmware. I went to the apple.com/support/download page and attempted to install the latest version manually, only to recieve a message stating that my computer does not need this update.

Computer logic amuses me. Any thoughts on how to override either of the two messages or workaround this? Re-installing OSX doesn't sound very appealing right now.

Two hours of sleep has a negative effect on my brain process. Unbelievable. Apologies, I'll go away and stop pestering the lot of you with my inanity. BootCamp installed fine. Many thanks.

Don't feel bad... I would have done the same if I were trying now, I'm sure. Luckily for me, the SMC update hadn't come out yet when I installed bootcamp, so it wasn't there to confuse me. By the way, does anyone know what SMC stands for?

Sleep is your friend. And you're far from the only person to run into this error message. It's confused a bunch of folks. So get some sleep!
