Hello,

My first post and fairly new to Macs, about 16 months. I'm on 10.2.8 .
My iMac is acting strange, not it's usual perky self.
By strange I mean for the very first time my screen froze and had to hold the
on/off button manually. My dot Mac e-mail, when I try to delete a message it
won't always let me, I have to do it 5 or 6 times . Sherlock won't open sometimes, and I am one to use that handy app. all the time. I have been slowly adding software but those programs seem to work well.
Now finally my question:

What would be a tip-off to a HDD that is ready to blow-up? Yep, I have the
3yr. Apple Care.

Thanks,
Alex

Not sure/don't know what that is.

Where would it normally be?

the hardware test cd would be in the package of cd's that came with the computer. the 3 year applecare also contains a utility cd.

but your problem may not be hardware either - it could be a problem with your system software or just something in your user account. first thing you may want to try is to create another user account and see if that experiences the same trouble.

Hmm,

I will have to do that tomorrow as I am way too tired tonight.
How long does the test usually take? and is having just one freeze up in over 15 months
average or?? Just wondering, thanks.

About the freeze up. Happened once just the other day so I don't know
if it will happen again. I thought I was having a mini-flashback of
Windows 98.

Thanks,

Alex

one freeze up in 15 months? well, personally i would not get too concerned unless the freezes start coming on a regular basis....i think just about anybody would be pretty happy with an OS that crashed less than once a year.

(but, as always, keeping a backup of your important data should be a part of everyone's routine maintenance....just in case)
