Took my 4.5 year old MacBook pro mid 2012 to a genus, was having issues when switching to discrete graphics.

Turns out I had a dodgy graphics card, that took four years to present its issues,

Without any AppleCare, Apple gave me:

New motherboard + graphics card +New Ram
New Screen - they said it had lost bits of its coating
New Keyboard - the A key had worn down

All ordered from China and installed in 5 days, nearly 2000 AUD worth of repairs for zero.

Very impressed,

Thats amazing. The GPU coverage is typically 3 or 4 years and they go our of their way to deny repairs. I had one a while back that got denied despite failing their own test for a factory fault because a tech found a spot of liquid damage on the optical drive. Several calls and even a letter to Apple were roundly denied.

I guess Australia is close enough to China to get its parts straight from the source.
In Europe everything comes next day (ordered before 12) from a warehouse in The Netherlands. Apple logistics are second to none, they really are.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

The 2012 gpu scheme is still active. In the UK at least. 2011 machines are no longer fixed for free.

Not quite as nifty as that, but Apple did just get me my new lappy 6 days early.
