I'd love to hear some feedback, too. I'm thinking that when it comes time to buy my PowerMac, I'd rather spend the $2500 on a Dual 1.8 + 6800 Ultra than on a "stock" Dual 2.0. Seeing as how I'll never need PCI-X or 8 DIMM slots, I think the the 1.8/6800 combo would be faster under most day-to-day tasks (as well as anything GPU intensive, like gaming) than the dual 2.0...

Just my $0.02.

I too would like to read some feedback. Although I probably won't buy a 6800 until Doom 3 is released for OS X.

I have one coming tomorrow for my dual 2.0. I'll try to post some info comparing to my old OEM 9800 Pro on my 23" CD.

PS- what would a Kerry supporter want with a $600 "rich man's card"? May I interest you in something more attuned to your populist point of view like a good old GF4MX "working man's card" - jk I couldn't resist as I had a little trouble swallowing the price on this card and considered canceling it until I saw more benches on it.

All I can hope is that someone out there is as stupid as I was and'll buy the 4mx off of me ;-)

Haven't tried the 6800, very expensive.....on the PC side, wait for the 6600 coming in....what....november? (PCX out now), it matches the 6800 on many benchmarks yet is 200$ USD MSRP ISTR. On the Mac side, can't really tell, might as well jump for the highest priced one, it'll still be the same price in 4 years ;-(

Hey, I like playing video games. I also like to keep the violence on my computer monitor and out of the real world and that's why I support Kerry.

Arn who runs MacRumors.com got his card on Thursday or Friday. He has a G5 2.5 that Apple shipped him with a temporary Radeon 9600XT in it. ...I changed my identical order to the GF6800 two days before him and I don't have mine yet, nor any indication that it has shipped from Apple... ;-O

It's in the belly of the beast now... got it on the 15th..

Damn thing is ugly as hell though... takes up 1/2 the PCI area and is loaded with capacitors and a huge fan assembly. Looks very hot. However it's been very quite, and my graphics performance 2D and 3D is dramatically better..

X-bench scores are all over the place but are about on par with my Radeon 9600XT in OpenGL yet quite a bit higher on Quartz and Text scores... makes me wonder either X-bench isn't accurate, or the drivers on this card are raw...

OpenMark score of 380 vs 280 on my Radeon 9600XT...

I noticed better performance in Halo, and Star Trek EF II is like glass at full resolution.

I've yet to really dive into this card, but I'm sure Apple has some tweaking to do on it before it's real potential is reached.

No need to wonder, The OpenGL test for Xbench sucks. It's more a CPU test than a GPU test.

Would someone with the GF6800 mind helping me out with the tech details:

1) run the GLInfo tool at the bottom of this page to get the file GLInfo.txt
2) run System Profiler and export a plain text version (I only care about seeing what is inside /System/Library/Extensions, after you've installed whatever special drivers the card came with)

mail me those two text files at "arekkusu at mac dot com"

much appreciated.

installed one today. Looks huge. Of course, the 30" HD that came with it took most of my attention. So big that I lost track of the cursor several times on a neutral gray background.

Will let you know if I get any neck strain in the coming days in looking from the Apple Menu to the trash can.

do me a favor mrchin... try to reboot your Geforce6800 G5 into it's Install Disk 1 (Hold down the "C" while the CD ROM is in the DVD Drive), as if you are trying to use the disk utility and see if it'll boot into the CD ROM successfully. Mine won't and I'm thinking Apple is going to have to give us 6800 Owners new OS X Recovery disks for our G5's as the 10.3.4 crashes with the Geforce6800.

try it and let me know..

Yep, the 6800 drivers are not on the recovery disks... Typical Apple.

Think there is another thread started about this, and it does indeed look like they will have to send out some new disks to people.

Yeah... I finally started a thread cause I think it's very important that as many of us get Apple to ship us new disks ASAP.
