I'm looking at picking up the Pioneer DVR-107D and slapping it in the Macally PHC-500BC enclosure. I know the drive is a good bet, but is anyone familiar with this enclosure?

It appears to be fanless, which makes me a little nervous.

It's aluminum, so there should be no need for a fan. The thing is a giant heatsink. I don't imagine you'll have problems.

I was looking at that one, too, then went with OWC (on clearance). The MacAlly doesn't have a power switch, which is not a problem if you leave the drive running 24/7, but I like having the switch.
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

I'm looking for a good quality DVD/CD burner that I can use with my laptop to save the internal SuperDrive...

I'd like to have something portable enough to take it on the road with me on business travel -- bus-powered would be WONDERFUL (could use it on airplanes!) -- FW800 seems like the way to go...

It might also be nice if the drive could operate in a stand-alone copy mode and duplicate (non-copyrighted) CD-Rs and DVD-Rs at a decent clip... I expect that the stand-alone feature would conflict with the portable and bus-powered features -- but why not ask the experts?

Here's a drive that seems nice from a portable/sexy match for my PowerBook; however, it doesn't mention if it is bus-powered; it isn't FW800; and it doesn't have a stand-alone mode... Other than that? It does provide dual-layer and fast burn times...

Anyone out there is experience with this item?

Any opinions and leads to other good products that are available?

Thanks,

Thanks for the input. I really like the look of the Macally, although it would be nice to have something to match my LaCie HD sitting here.
