I saw this article this morning:
Van Halen sues Baltimore Orioles
Now, it may be just me, but it seems to me that Van Halen is kind of washed up. Yeah, back in their day the music was okay (when David Lee Roth was with the band), but now I couldn't care less about seeing them.
I get the feeling that they're suing the Orioles not so much to make a point, but because they probably need the cash.
Pretty sad...was wondering what other bands people consider totally washed up?
Some older bands fade out of the limelight but you always respect their music, you know? Like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, just to name a couple. But, a lot of other bands should just fade away and not try to make a comeback.

Lynyrd Skynyrd comes to mind. Also: Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

Just ok??? Are you crazy?
You are ordered to go listen to the following albums:
Van Halen
Van Halen II
Women and Children First
1984
Some of the greatest guitar work of the late 70's and early 80's.

Like I said, I don't mind the FIRST Van Halen.
But they don't have David Lee Roth and yeah, I know that Eddie Van Halen is a genius guitarist, but I don't want to hear the songs that David Lee Roth helped make famous with his vocals...and not have David Lee Roth singing them, you know?
I just have an aversion to bands making a comeback...without the original members.
This looks like it's going to be a good discussion.

My mom absolutely loves Weird Al Yankovich. I stopped liking him when I was 8. I think he definitely qualifies as "washed up."

i went to his (weird al) concert last night. always great fun. washed up my ass. you just have no idea what is 'fun'
washed up: bands that break up and form other bands with other members, ala GnR and Velvet Revolver or Soundgarden/Rage and AudioSlave. once they start doing that, it means they suck more than ever

I've always hated boy bands.
They're all washed up -- right from the get-go.

...oh, and is Eddie Van Halen touring with the band anyway? The last I heard he had lost his tongue due to cancer.
I felt sorry for him when I heard that, to be honest.
Also, have you ever noticed that it seems that bands that are washed up appear most frequently at state fairs and local festivals? Or they're opening acts for other bands?

He had tongue cancer, but didn't get it removed. He's fine now, the whole group is back together for this latest tour, Sammy and the gang at least. I'm a big fan of Sammy over DLR, I don't think the majority of people think Sammy is just a poor replacement.

sure, if you like rage tunes and soundgarden vocals, i'm sure it is good music
crap + crap = more crap
two washed up bands (rage and soundgarden) may make a new band, but the members are still washed up. IMO.

The Rolling Stones.
Now there's an interesting subject; I like their music, but they need to just fade away gracefully.
They're all senior citizens and there's something not very attractive about geriatrics hopping around on the stage, all wrinkly skin and bones and not very spry anymore.
I feel sorry for bands like that.
But, with that much said, if they were here I'd probably go see them, so I'm a hypocrite.
Bob Dylan is older also, but he's great to see at any age. Like Willie Nelson, I don't care about his age.

Hey, KarlG, that was funny.
I think I do also, some days.
But, at least you're not hopping around on a stage, right? (Or are you? )

Huey Lewis & The News.
Duran Duran.
Band cycle: Start out in garage. Move up to bars. Move up to stadiums. Move back down to bars. End up back in garage.

"I wish that I had Jesse's girl."
Rick Springfield.
"Whip it -- whip it good!"
Devo.
Anything by Night Ranger.
"I come from the land down under..."
Men at work. (Whatever happened to them, anyway? Did they go back to work someplace?)

That would be too many. How 'bout artists/groups with 2 good albums (or a bunch of hits) who began to suck? We'd have too many one hit wonders.

Actually saw VH when they were in DC. The demographics shocked me.... basically couples with their pre-teen kids. They did look a bit aged... but still put on a good show. I think they 'evolved' when Haggar joined the group... DLR was mostly party and get drunk music whereas Haggar added some soul to the music (like it or not). Haggar does also have a better range IMO.
DLR did have some classic lines in his lyrics though.

Celtic Frost.
What ever happened to Celtic Frost?
Is it true that they got lost
in the pandemonium
Never to be seen again
Tom Warrior fell from a tree in cherry orchard
Martin Ain drowned in a cold lake
Reed St. Mark went to Mega Therion
and remains there 'till this day
Tom Warrior is waiting for the emperor's return
Martin Ain's trapped in the circle of tyrants
Reed St. mark was blinded in the crypt of rays
where he remains 'till this day
Storm Troopers of Death Lyrics.

Oh, and I think Michael Jackson is teetering on the edge of washed-uppery, assuming he's not already there. The man is out of control and before long, people will forget he existed. He had some great music back in the day but now he's just a nutcase who craves attention.

I wouldn't touch MJ's album [old music] with a 39 1/2 foot poll.
He's garbage. He's washed up for good reason, and he's a perv to top it off.

The Cars and The J. Geils Band were okay in their time. However, notice that they haven't tried to make a comeback? You gotta respect 'em for that.
You know who really sucks, though?
Boy George.
Someone have a picture of what a freak he's turned into? He and Rosie O'Donnell tried to have a Broadway show in NYC and it was a disaster.

Well, whenever they released that last stinker of theirs. You know, on top of the stinker they put out before that. Achtung Baby is really the only thing they've ever done that's still listenable as far as I'm concerned.

That's the good thing about Christian Rock, they're all young, and they stay that way, Christian rock hasn't been big enough long enough that any of the great bands are needing to use depends. And besides they all break up before they get old. They all just fade away. The only bands that I really worry about just staying around are DC Talk and MxPx and Audio Adrenaline. None of which I care for all that much any more or ever. MxPx has been putting stuff out for like ten years, if they go another ten I could deal with it, they go another twenty and well... yah... I imagine they'll have families before that.
That's the good thing all the Christian rock bands just get married, or become youth pastors or something. Then again there are some bands that just don't die, like thankfully the OC Supertones, 7 albums, and uhh... only one original member, and they're a ska band! That's a lot of members!
