You know that guy, too? See, all these movies take place in a small town called Shermer, in Illinois, where all the honies are top-shelf, but all the dudes are whiny pussies - except for Judd Nelson

I was not a huge fan of most Hughes films except for Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I'll bet I watched that movie a couple hundred times.

Weird. That's the one Hughes movie I think is absolutely retarded.

Then again, I'm also a girl, so of course I'm going to find Pretty in Pink appealing...

Beuhler's First Law:
You can't respect somebody who kisses your ass.

John Hughes was a rare genius. Without him the 80s would have been devoid of pop culture.

I can point to scenes from many of his movies that are funny, but as a whole I don't like any of them. HIs characters are all self-absorbed shits, really. Ferris Beuller? He's an asshole who treats his friends like **** and his girlfriend like a whore. **** that movie.

1. Would you like a Care Bear to star in every movie instead?
2. That whole day was about doing something good for Cameron. One could assume his life had been changed for the better after that day.

People who dislike Ferris Bueller's Day off need to relax their grip on reality.

Weird Science? The whole premise of the Breakfast Club was learning not to be a dick.

But, yeah, he tended to make movies about people that were jerks. In large part, that's what made them funny. Would Vacation have been funny if Clark wasn't a dick? Would Planes Trains and Automobiles have been funny if Neal wasn't a dick?

He's made some of my all-time favorite movies (and wrote one of the best comedies of all time - The Great Outdoors). This story about him is amazing, and we really need more people like him in Hollywood:
We'll Know When We Get There: Sincerely, John Hughes

All glory to the hypnotoad.

I haven't watched the Great Outdoors since I was a kid, but what I remember makes me think I wouldn't like much as an adult.

Depends on how young of a kid you were. I know there was some stuff that I didn't get when I first saw it (since I was about 8), but that I actually understand now and love.

Plus there's the bald-headed killer bear of Claire county. Awesome.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

The only really funny scene I remember was when John Candy shot the bear in the ass with a loaded shotgun lamp. I like that he plugged it into the wall before he pulled the trigger.

edit. Damn, I can't find it on Youtube.

Slick shoes?! Are you crazy?!

The guy knew his stuff to be sure. And so far everyone who would know agrees that he was a really really nice guy too. That's pretty rare in H'wood. Seems like that's why he left.
